AIA President Lauds Additional Path to Licensure for Aspiring Architects

Washington, D.C. – Jun 5, 2014 – Following the National Council of Architectural Boards (NCARB) Board of Directors endorsement of an additional licensure route for prospective architects that includes licensure upon graduation from an accredited program, AIA President, Helene Combs Dreiling, FAIA issued the following statement:

“I applaud the NCARB board’s willingness to endorse additional paths to licensure. Their aspiring to shorten the duration of the licensure process for emerging professionals, while maintaining the integrity of the architect registration’s purpose—to protect the public’s health, safety and welfare—is encouraging and exciting. When I served on the Collateral Internship Task Force in 1999, the idea of licensure upon graduation had its genesis.  Following the AIA’s 2014 Emerging Professionals Summit in Albuquerque, it became one of the highest priorities for the collateral architectural organizations.  I look forward to the AIA’s continued collaboration with NCARB, ACSA, AIAS, and NAAB on removing any unnecessary impediments on the pathway to licensure.”
