Boundless Releases OpenGeo Suite 4.1: Enhances IT Interoperability and Ease of Use

Upgrade Makes it Easier for Enterprises to Integrate Mapping and Geo with Overall IT Strategy

New York, NY & Washington, DC - June 26, 2014 Boundless, the leading provider of open source geospatial software and services, today released OpenGeo Suite 4.1, the newest version of its powerful enterprise geospatial software platform.

“Boundless has always been about making going open easier, for developers and for enterprises, and with the new capabilities of OpenGeo Suite 4.1 we’re maintaining that focus,” said Paul Ramsey, Vice President of Product Management at Boundless.

Boundless continues to invest and innovate in OpenGeo Suite, bringing new features to the free version along with select new tools and professional services for enterprise customers.

Enhanced Ease of Use

  • New application development templates have been added that use a production-ready version of OpenLayers 3. A basic map viewer template allows users to query layers for details and highlight points, and a new editor template allows users to add, modify, delete, and draw lines and polygons. These free templates make it easier and faster for developers to get started builds applications on OpenGeo Suite.
  • A free QGIS installer for Windows and OSX dramatically increases the ease and affordability of desktop analysis and editing tools. This separate download from Boundless includes the OpenGeo Explorer plugin to publish maps and data to the web using OpenGeo Suite.

Simplified IT Deployment

Enterprise customers benefit from simplified IT deployment options including virtual machines, clustering support, and Mapmeter monitoring. Pricing is based on each unique configuration, providing a cost-effective alternative to a per-CPU fee model.

  • Cluster-ready virtual machines make deploying high-availability and high capacity mapping systems far easier for enterprises. Ready to run on VMWare ESX and Amazon AWS.
  • Mapmeter monitors the performance and value of geospatial deployments. Now included exclusively with OpenGeo Suite, Mapmeter gathers and visualizes the data needed to reduce costs, optimize applications, diagnose critical issues, and make decisions about production deployments.

Advanced Big Data Support

OpenGeo Suite has always shipped with PostGIS and supported other relational databases, including Oracle Spatial, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, and others.  Boundless now supports big data software for storage and mapping:

  • MongoDB is a popular document-oriented database, and Boundless has partnered with MongoDB allow customers to store spatial data in MongoDB, publish it and edit it on the web using OpenGeo Suite.
  • Boundless has launched a partnership with CCRi to support Apache Accumulo through GeoMesa, a key-value store suitable for massive data storage problems.

“OpenGeo Suite interoperates on a database level only, which makes it easy to expand capabilities without re-working an entire application,” said Ramsey. “This makes it a great tool for organizations looking for long-term flexibility as scaling requirements grow.”

Boundless offers a host of service packages and trainings to help customers and free users get the most from their OpenGeo Suite deployment. Multiple new web-based and on-site trainings were recently added to Boundless’ offerings.
