East View Geospatial Supported Grueling Papua New Guinea Three-Month Expedition

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - July 2, 2014 - East View Geospatial (EVG) was the proud sole provider of Tyvek topographic maps for the Papua New Guinea Expedition (PNG Expedition), a successful unsupported human powered north to south crossing of Papua New Guinea at its widest point.

Patrick Hutton and Richard Johnson comprised the PNG Expedition Team. Their mission was to raise money for the Papuan charity, Childfund, which co-ordinates projects across Papua New Guinea, aiming to ensure that all communities have access to regular health care, education, sanitation and the ability to live without fear of violence since 1994.

The 1000 kilometer journey was split into three stages, over a period of 83 days. Stage one was a walk parallel to the Fly River, machete cutting through thick jungle, progressing inch by inch in arguably the most inhospitable terrain in the world. Stage two required a climb through the Star Mountains and descent using jungle vines, over the sheer scarp of the Hindenburg wall in the center and most inaccessible part of the island. In stage three, they were filmed assembling a raft and paddling downstream to the river's mouth, dodging rapids and alligators on their descent. The Sepik River then spit them out, into the Bismarck Sea.

They completed their expedition on June 2, 2014. More photographs of the expedition can be viewed at www.pngexpedition.com.

Richard and Patrick of the PNG Expedition said of the maps supplied by EVG, "The maps far exceeded our expectations and were invaluable to our completion. They were drenched, dragged and endlessly pulled in and out of our rucksacks for 3 months, but all survived, showing little to no wear and tear. Also, relying on local accuracy for the location of the next town/village was somewhat questionable at times; this is where the maps came into their own."

"As one of the top map providers in the world, it was our privilege to provide Richard and Patrick with maps that could withstand the grueling, 3-month expedition," said Kent Lee, CEO of East View Geospatial.
