Electric Utilities Benefit From Vegetation Management Software

AUSTIN, Texas – July 17, 2014 – GeoSpatial Innovations, Inc. (GSI) announced today that it released a cloud-based vegetation management software for electric utilities, GSI Forester, streamlining data collection for managing plant life along electric lines that traditionally was managed with paper maps, spreadsheets and timesheets.

GSI Forester helps utility foresters identify and plan specific vegetation maintenance, notify and coordinate work with property owners or customers, and assign and audit work done by tree trimming crews. The result is an optimized work process that wrings excess spending from vegetation management budgets, which are among the largest operations costs for electric distribution utilities.

"Implementing a cloud-based solution of GSI Forester allows utilities of all sizes to manage and support a comprehensive software solution with limited IT resources, allowing utility personnel to execute on the business process," Carl Livingood, President of GSI, says. "This architecture also enables instantaneous financial management using dashboards and custom reports from anywhere within the organization."

GSI Forester includes a robust, disconnected mobile application for field workers that can be utilized by foresters, trimming contractors, and auditors to better manage the collection of vegetation data. Additionally, a web portal is used by managers back in the office to monitor the progress of work against the trim cycle, a period of years to meet specific goals.

“Because GSI Forester is cloud based and delivered through the SaaS deployment model, it provides a feature-rich software tool that does not involve on-premises setup and configuration,” Michael Hamsa, Chief Technology Officer of GSI, says. “Software subscriptions can be easily activated, allowing our customers to quickly start using the software and adapt their processes to achieve more efficiencies and realize significant cost savings and reduced IT overhead.”
