Things3D Opens Up The Next Mobile Gaming Frontier Via 3D-Printing

Things3D Developer Program Democratises Smart 3D Printing For Game Developers To Allow Fans To Engage With Physical Characters Directly In-App

MANCHESTER, England — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 11, 2014 — Things3D announces the launch of the Things3D Developer Program that heralds the start of a new wave of physical consumer engagement for mobile game developers. Based on four international patents pending, this world’s first platform allows mobile game developers to create smart interactive 3D printed figurines that interact with their mobile games. Until now, this lucrative market of ‘interactive figurine-based digital games’ has only been accessible in the console gaming world by a handful of big companies who can afford to invest millions in mass manufacturing infrastructure. Things3D’s Ownerchip® and T3DSECURE® platform leverages ‘Smart’ 3D printing to effectively open up this market to all game developers. The Age of ‘The Internet Of Things’ has finally arrived to the mobile gaming industry.

Things3D is the brainchild of Joe Wee and Chris Byatte, the Founders of Chillingo (later acquired by Electronic Arts in 2010) who discovered and published some of the biggest mobile IP in the past decade like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. Things3D combines their experience from mobile, app publishing, indie developer ecosystems & licensing into the brave new world of 3D printing.

Founder & Director, Chris Byatte comments "This platform creates a 360° digital-to-physical bridge for game developers to engage with their fans. It taps into the propensity for gamers to create collections of characters in which they have an emotional tie-in. Through the Things3D platform, both digital and physical manifestation of the characters are inherently tied via smartphone imaging & scanning technology through our Ownerchip® and T3DSECURE® platform."

Current 3D printing marketplaces and technology providers around gaming have had little traction as they are limited to toys or ‘dumb’ 3D prints. Things3D’s patented platform makes the 3D print ‘smart’ and fully interactive with the digital app experience. Founder & Director, Joe Wee explains "The Things3D SDK provides developers with a multitude of ways to create new engagement mechanics during gameplay via the physical ‘Smart’ 3D prints. This is a step-change in thinking for game developers when designing games." Wee adds “Things3D will tap into the creative power of the app developers to create new exciting physical-digital experiences for their fans."

Developers may request priority access to the Things3D Closed Beta SDK @ https://developer.things3d.com . Currently, the Things3D SDK is compatible with all Android and iOS devices. Further gaming platforms will be announced in the near future.
