Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) solution gets top honours as the Best Mobile Solution
TORONTO – Sep 15, 2014 – Esri Canada, a provider of geographic information system (GIS) solutions was named a Gold Winner for Best Mobile Solution at the 12th annual CDN Channel Elite Awards (CEA) gala held in Toronto on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. The Esri Canada Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) solution was recognized as being the most innovative in providing a solution which efficiently monitors and manages summer and winter maintenance vehicles.
The CEA recognizes IT Solution Providers for their innovation, leadership and commitment to creating business value for customers in nine categories. The Best Mobile Solution award goes to a provider who has made the most innovative use of an anytime, anywhere, anyplace type of mobility solution that can include hardware such as smart devices, software, security, apps and services. The winning solution provider must also show how this mobile solution is deployed and delivered to a remote workforce.
"Esri Canada's Channel Elite Award Gold winning solution solved a common problem for many people, similar to finding your vehicle in a packed parking lot. But this highly innovative mobile solution went a lot deeper by being able to report on route status and capturing important vehicle data that can be shared with other stakeholders. It was not a big surprise to CDN that Esri Canada was again honoured, this time with a Gold award, as they are one of the Top 100 Solution Providers in Canada," said Paolo Del Nibletto, Editor, CDN - Computer Dealer News.
“We’re delighted to be presented with this award for our AVL solution,” said Alex Miller, president, Esri Canada. “Local governments have implemented this solution as it extends beyond most vehicle tracking programs by allowing organizations to not only track vehicles in real time, but also create route status reports, easily share data and take advantage of historical playback tools to effectively manage operations.”
The AVL solution is a hosted solution that offers access to a wide range of basemaps, the ability to integrate map layers, and open access to data from desktop and browser-based applications. It leverages ArcGIS Online to analyze, publish and share AVL content with others inside and outside the organization. It also provides enhanced functionality for mapping, spatial analysis and reporting, making it easy to monitor the distance travelled and amount of salt and sand spread by each vehicle. This, in turn, allows municipalities to more accurately determine the financial and environmental costs of winter road maintenance operations.
In addition to supporting winter operations, the solution can also be used for managing summer ï¬Âeld activities, including side-road mowing, tree pruning and road repairs. It can be conï¬Âgured to track other types of vehicles including utility trucks, transit buses, police cars, ï¬Âre trucks and marine vehicles.
