As part of CGE7's advanced virtualization technology, MontaVista now supports Docker®as an alternative method to a hypervisor for virtualizing applications. MontaVista already supports traditional LXC containers, and has done so for many years. Docker®provides a method of container virtualization without the need for a hypervisor, and addresses a number of concerns that container technology had around security and multi-tenant isolation. With Docker®and CGE7, Enterprise and Service Provider customers can now use an alternative virtualization method to meet strict networking requirements around high performance, security and reliability – something traditional hypervisor solutions were not always able to collectively meet.
