Cloud Provider CPU24/7 joins UberCloud Marketplace with OpenFOAM Solution

The partnership brings together two premium computing companies to offer cloud-enabled solutions for engineers and scientist

Berlin, Germany, October 15, 2014 – CPU 24/7, specialized in providing scalable HPC as a Service for applications related to CAE, and UberCloud, a cloud computing marketplace allowing engineers, scientists and their service providers to offer and use applications in the cloud, announced the development of Cloud-enabled CPU 24/7 solutions for the UberCloud Marketplace. The announcement was shared last week at the 2nd OpenFOAM user conference in Berlin, an event organized by ESI-OpenCFD, bringing together the creators and the users of OpenFOAM.

OpenFOAM is a free, open source CFD software package developed by ESI-OpenCFD Ltd at ESI. It has a large user base across most areas of engineering and science. OpenFOAM has an extensive range of features to solve anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions, turbulence and heat transfer, to solid dynamics and electromagnetics. OpenFOAM is now available fully integrated with CPU 24/7 cloud resources on the UberCloud online marketplace providing efficient and optimized remote access to off-the-shelf OpenFOAM based applications running on virtual desktop environments in the cloud.

“The UberCloud marketplace is an open and transparent market for HPC On Demand services, enabling engineers and scientists to find the appropriate HPC On Demand solution, to compare and purchase them at the press of a button. In fact, it is a great opportunity to easily access temporary and scalable computing resources that allow organizations to run more complex and accurate simulations, said Dr.-Ing. Matthias Reyer, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder of CPU 24/7. “Together with UberCloud, CPU 24/7 offers cloud customers easy access to leading edge HPC-Cloud enabling CAE solutions through our easy to use Cloud portal, called Resource Area.”

CPU 24/7 currently offers two OpenFOAM cloud products on the UberCloud Marketplace, with more products being introduced to the UberCloud marketplace in the next few months, together with several dozens of cloud-enabled products from other CAE software vendors. According to UberCloud's CEO Burak Yenier, there are currently 15 software providers (ISVs) in UberCloud's development pipeline, with more than 60 service products for the marketplace.

“CPU 24/7 is one of the first cloud resource providers which approached us to get on the UberCloud marketplace,” added Wolfgang Gentzsch, President of the UberCloud. “We are very pleased to jointly offer two different kinds of products on the UberCloud marketplace: an OpenFOAM Fluid Dynamics ‘starter edition’ for 1,000 core hours and a ‘standard edition’ for 10,000 core hours targeted to the European HPC service market; and more to come.”

ABOUT CPU 24/7

CPU 24/7, based in Potsdam and with data centres in Berlin and Hamburg, specializes in providing scalable High Performance Computing (HPC) power “as a service” for applications related to Computer-Aided-Engineering (CAE) such as Computational Fluid Dynamics and Computational Structural Mechanics. As such, CPU 24/7 offers on-demand computing power resources and provides custom-made and dedicated HPC systems and capabilities with a ready-to-run and remote workstation environment as an all-inclusive package taking in the HPC instance on bare metal servers, interconnection, data traffic, storage, comprehensive support, security and software, like OpenFOAM. HPC remote resources are available either as flexibly and online bookable computing capacities for a limited period of time (Resource Area) or also as continuous state-of-the-art HPC systems geared to one’s individual needs. Either way, CPU 24/7 provides users with a completely pre-configured and easy-to-use workstation environment so that customers are able to run their calculations and simulations remotely like they normally would do on a desktop pc. About The UberCloud

The UberCloud started in 2012 with inviting the wider technical computing community of engineers and scientists and their service providers to participate in real-life hands-on experiments to move and run the end-users applications in the cloud. 155 of these experiments have been performed so far and the challenges carefully investigated. Based on this experience, the UberCloud online marketplace platform has been developed. Today, end-users and service providers have one common access point for technical computing in the cloud: the UberCloud information, community, experiment, and online marketplace to discover, try, and buy computing on demand.
