2014 Altera Foundation Cup Raises $55,000 for STEM Education in Silicon Valley

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 15, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) hosted its second annual Altera Foundation Cup (AFC) charity golf tournament in September and raised $55,000 for Resource Area For Teaching (RAFT). The Silicon Valley non-profit organization provides creative educational activities for teachers specializing in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. RAFT serves 7,500 educators and 600,000 students each year in the Bay Area, striving to spark the love of learning for the next generation of thinkers, innovators, problem solvers, and creators.

More than 130 golfers attended the tournament and reception at The Golf Club at Boulder Ridge in San Jose, California. Golfers included representatives from Altera, Amkor Technology, ANSYS, Arrow, Arteris, ASE Group, Atrenta, Brocade Communications Inc., Cadence, Cisco, Digi-Key, EMC, Exalt Communications, F5 Networks, Flextronics, Intel, ISI Nallatech, Jabil, Kinsus, Linear Technologies, Macnica, Mentor Graphics, Mouser Electronics, NetApp, PureStorage, Rambus Inc., Rochester Electronics, Stevens Creek BMW, Synopsys, and Unimicron.

"Our goal was to raise more than $45,000 for RAFT—50 percent more than last year," said Mark Nelson, Altera senior vice president of Worldwide Sales. "We surpassed that goal and goal and raised $55,000. It is wonderful to see so much support from Altera employees, suppliers, partners, and customers for this worthy cause."

The Altera Foundation was established in 2011 to further Altera's charitable giving efforts. The foundation supports Altera's corporate values, especially the belief that innovation enables the betterment of individuals, communities, and society.
