Granta Promotes Latest Software to Apply Materials Data to Real-Life Engineering Problems at Advanced Engineering UK 2014 Show, NEC, 11-12 Nov

Cambridge, UK – October 27th, 2014 - At this year’s Advanced Engineering UK show (NEC, Birmingham 11-12 Nov) Granta Design will be promoting on its booth (D17) the latest GRANTA MI Version 8 software, which helps engineering enterprises to manage and apply vital materials data, ensuring quality, gaining time, and avoiding risk in the engineering process. The Granta team will also demonstrate CES Selector™ 2015, which provides updated tools that help materials experts and product development teams to make more effective materials decisions.

GRANTA MI enables companies in sectors including aerospace, automotive, energy, industrial and consumer equipment, and medical devices to manage their proprietary data on composites, metals, plastics, and other materials. They can combine this data with authoritative reference data, creating a single, trusted source for corporate materials information. At the Advanced Engineering show, Granta will demonstrate the latest MI:Materials Gateway technology, which integrates this information into CAD, CAE, and PLM software (supported systems include: Autodesk Inventor, Abaqus/CAE, ANSYS, CATIA, NX, Pro/ENGINEER and Creo, Teamcenter, and Windchill). Visitors to the Granta booth will also see the new MI:Product Intelligence tools, which apply materials data to assess and avoid regulatory and environmental product risk. And further new Version 8 features, which will be fully announced in November, will be on display.

CES Selector™ is a desktop PC software package that enables engineers to find, plot, compare, and apply materials property data, particularly for material selection and substitution. The 2015 edition includes new tools that make it even easier to specify engineering requirements during materials selection, aiding solution of real-life engineering problems.  Other benefits include enhanced export of material property information for use in FEA; new and extended data supporting metals equivalency studies; and improved data coverage of plastics, medical materials, and composites. For those concerned about environmental and supply risk, additional resources include enhanced traceability of eco data and new data on critical materials and related risk factors.

Visitors to Granta’s booth will also be able to find out about two Granta consortia: the new Automotive Material Intelligence Consortium (‘AutoMatIC’), and the Material Data Management Consortium (MDMC).        AutoMatIC, which holds its first meeting on Oct 23 in Paris hosted by PSA Peugeot Citroën, now includes General Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, KSPG AG, and PSA within its membership. AutoMatlC is targeting material challenges including lightweighting and emissions reduction, supply chain risk, and integrating materials into design, simulation, and PLM strategy.  The MDMC recently held its 24thmeeting hosted by United Technologies Corp. subsidiary, Pratt & Whitney; now at Phase IV, MDMC has created new tools to deploy materials data for use in design and simulation, and new capabilities to manage information relating to composites and advanced materials. The new phase will focus on further improvements in the efficiency of materials data management and on helping members to apply this data for greater impact.
