USGIF Announces GEOINT Community Week Events

Fall series of activities to cover topics in homeland security, multi-INT, and more

Herndon, Virginia (Oct. 29, 2014) — The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) continues to develop a strong GEOINT community of interest with the addition of several new events to this year’s GEOINT Community Week. This annual week of geospatial-related activities and events is designed to further collaboration among the defense, intelligence, and homeland security communities across government, industry, and academia. The 2014 GEOINT Community Week takes place Nov. 17-21 at various locations throughout Northern Virginia, and will also include partner events throughout the country.

GEOINT Community Cleared Job Fair – Monday, Nov. 17

USGIF’s GEOINT Community Cleared Job Fair is an opportunity for applicants seeking employment within the GEOINT field to meet companies currently hiring for GEOINT-related positions. Participating companies include L-3 Communications, Deloitte, Esri, In-Q-Tel, TASC, and more.

Multi-INT Tradecraft Community Innovation Exchange – November 17-21

The IC-wide Multi-INT Tradecraft Community of Practice has partnered with USGIF to hold a TS//SI/TK classified Multi-INT Tradecraft Community Innovation Exchange. Throughout the week, analysts, collection officers, and subject matter experts are invited to help solve some of the most challenging intelligence problems and participate in breakout discussions, demonstrations, and tutorials. Industry is invited to showcase interactive tradecraft demonstrations and serve as rapporteurs, capturing the salient points for an out brief at the end of the week. 

GEOINTeraction Tuesday – Tuesday, Nov. 18

USGIF’s bimonthly GEOINTeraction Tuesday event will be held at Embassy Suites in Springfield, Va., and will feature NGA’s Doug McGovern, director of InnoVision; and Karyn Hayes-Ryan, director of the National System for GEOINT IT Oversight, Deputy Component Acquisition Executive.

Geography 2050 – Wednesday, Nov. 19

USGIF has partnered with the American Geographical Society for its fall conference, “Geography 2050: Mounting an Expedition to the Future.” The day’s agenda takes place at Columbia University’s Low Memorial Library in New York City. This event will focus on major trends reshaping the nation and planet between now and 2050. Speakers include NGA Director Robert Cardillo, Google Vice President Brian McClendon, U.S. State Department’s Geographer of the United States Dr. Lee Schwartz, and other defense, geography, and environmental experts.

GIS Day – Wednesday, Nov. 19

In support of the worldwide celebration of GIS Day, USGIF will exhibit at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co., and George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Additionally, members of USGIF’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) will participate in a career panel at George Mason University.

Homeland Security and Defense Geospatial Content Exchange – Thursday, Nov. 20

Another new addition to GEOINT Community Week is the first-ever Homeland Security and Defense Geospatial Content Exchange, to be held in Arlington, Va. The event drives collaboration between government, industry, and academia supporting homeland security and defense missions. Speakers representing the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies, such as the Department of the Interior, will participate. The day will also feature more than 30 exhibits from DHS components, directorates, and offices, as well as industry members.

The Eisenhower Institute presents “Ten Years Later: Looking at ODNI ” – Thursday, Nov. 20

Gettysburg College’s Eisenhower Institute (EI) Undergraduate Fellows will host a panel discussion at the Gettysburg campus titled “Ten Years Later: Looking at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence”. USGIF’s commitment to academia makes this event a natural inclusion in GEOINT Community Week. The panel will examine whether ODNI accomplished the goals set out for it in the 9/11 Commission Report.

YPG Third Thursday – Thursday, Nov. 20

The USGIF YPG will hold its monthly “YPG Third Thursday” casual gathering in Arlington, Va., to help young professionals grow their networks.

The Eisenhower Institute Fellows visit NCE – Friday, Nov. 21

As part of the EI Undergraduate Fellows’ national security and intelligence series, USGIF has arranged for the fellows to visit NGA Campus East in Springfield, Va. The tour will include briefings and demonstrations.

USGIF Fall Golf Outing – Friday, Nov. 21
