Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Launches Industry’s Fastest and World’s First Wi-Fi Enabled Next Generation Quantum Core Alignment Fusion Splicer

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 4, 2014 — Sumitomo Electric Lightwave ( www.sumitomoelectric.com), a major leader in the design and manufacturing of optical fiber and connectivity solutions, today announced the introduction of its next generation single-fiber core alignment fusion splicer, the Quantum™ Type-Q101-CA -PLUS. The fusion splicer enhances speed, user friendliness as the first to introduce Wi-Fi, and maximizes splicing and cost efficiencies for advanced splicing performance for FTTx, data center, and other communication network applications.

To meet the needs for increased productivity and faster connectivity for network installations, restorations, and moves, adds, and changes, the fully navigational touch screen Quantum CA-PLUS maintains all of the qualities and industry only features of its predecessor, the Quantum Type-Q101-CA, while reaching new standard levels in speed and cost efficiency by reducing heater shrink time by half from 28 to 14 seconds.

This new speed, coupled by the industry’s only patent protected dual independent ovens, makes the QuantumCA-PLUS the fastest in the industry. The dual independent heat shrink system eliminates the heat waiting time for streamlined, consecutive splices—increasing splicing efficiency by over 80%.

In response to technicians’ needs for synchronization and user friendliness, Sumitomo Electric designed the new unit with Wi-Fi capabilities for important splice data transfer and other interactive work related features via mobile apps, setting a new standard in fusion splicing technology.

As well as being the industry’s only core alignment fusion splicer with a simultaneous dual heating system and Wi-Fi capabilities, the Quantum CA PLUS comprises other industry only features that heighten the splicing experience for installers and technicians:

  • Internet Interface for 24-7 remote diagnostic and maintenance with Sumitomo Electric Lightwave On-Time Service Center technicians
  • Video Playback
  • SD port for virtually unlimited data storage for software, training, and video uploads/downloads

With the smallest and lightest footprint of core-alignment splicers, the Quantum CA-PLUS incorporates a rugged design that complies with the most stringent shock, waterproof, and dust resistance requirements. The splicer is also compatible with Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s Lynx2 CustomFit® Splice-On Connectors for real-time and on-site field installable connectivity.

“By continuing to listen to the customer, we have launched the most advanced, reliable, and user-friendly fusion splicer in the industry,” comments Dwayne Holst, product manager at Sumitomo Electric Lightwave. “We are grateful to our customers for their valuable input, which is the foundation of our continued leadership in providing the best and most advanced fusion splicing technology, backed by exceptional engineering and technical support.”

The Quantum CA-PLUS is available immediately for delivery.
