Artec Eva Scanner Used in Creation of President Obama's 3D Portrait

PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Dec 08, 2014 -- Artec Group, a leading developer and manufacturer of professional 3D software and hardware, today announces the use of its Eva scanner in the creation of United States President Barack Obama's 3D-printed bust. The high-resolution, handheld 3D scanners replaced the need for the President's face to be covered in plaster in order to capture his likeness. Instead, for 90 seconds two 3D digitization professionals circled the President with Artec Eva scanners to capture 3D images in real time.

President Obama isn't the only famous profile to be scanned using Artec's technology, earlier this year Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Danish Higher Education and Science Minister Sofie Carsten Nielsen were scanned. Artec's handheld scanners provide the perfect solution for capturing difficult and detailed surfaces with complex textures, such as the human face. The Eva scanner provides a quick, textured and accurate scan, without the need for markers or calibration. It captures objects quickly in high resolution and vibrant color, which allows for almost unlimited applications.

"We are very proud that our scanners were used to 3D scan President Obama," said Artyom Yukhin, president and CEO of Artec Group. "With our technology, 3D scanning has never been easier and more accessible. In fact, anyone can now get their 3D portrait done, not only the US President, thanks to our handheld scanners or our 3D full body scanner Artec Shapify Booth."

In addition to its handheld scanners, Artec has also developed a 3D body scanning booth that is already being well-received in several continents including North America, Europe and Asia. The Shapify Booth uses the company's innovative 3D scanning technology to conduct a full body scan of a person in just 12 seconds. From the scan, a 360 degree digital 3D model is rendered that can be viewed in minutes. The digital image is used to produce a full color, detailed mini-me figurine called a 'Shapie.' From scan to print the process is fully automated and captures the smallest details like a wrinkle on a shirt or a dimple on a face. The final 'Shapie' can be shipped to the customer's home or back to the scanning location for pick-up. With Artec 3D scanning technology, now anyone can experience their own 3D "presidential treatment."
