January 13, 2015 -- A dedicated tool-maker relies on the WorkPLAN Management System to plan and monitor all its projects for producing around 250 plastic injection moulds a year.
Based in Hyderabad, India, Vasantha Tool Crafts Pvt Ltd creates high-precision mould tools at three manufacturing plants, for a variety of applications including switch gear, electronics, home appliances, medical, pharma, cosmetics and health care.
Mr. Pavan Gunti, Senior Manufacturing Manager, is responsible for all shopfloor activities, and uses WorkPLAN, from Vero Software, for process planning, project scheduling, keeping track in real time of each job’s progress from start to finish, and generating reports.
In total, they have more than 70 machines, including 22 CNC mills, two lathes and four wire electrodes, handling every aspect of the mould-making process. WorkPLAN’s job tracker, information manager, scheduler, multi-site and touch screen capabilities combine to ensure the smooth running of all manufacturing and administrative procedures.
All their projects are planned and scheduled in WorkPLAN, and they use the machine loading list to input information to the shopfloor.
“WorkPLAN is essential in providing load plans, finding bottle neck areas on the factory floor, and creating reports to comply with our ISO requirements. It does everything from process planning, project scheduling, printing of machine loading lists, and producing reports of planned activity against actual,” he says.
“We use the touch screen module to capture real time spent on jobs, which gives us a real-time view of all shopfloor activities, showing which job is running on each machine, and who the operator is.”
Having implemented WorkPLAN across their three manufacturing plants five years ago, he says it is a valuable and integral part of tracking and managing all activities from project handling to ERP, which enables custom manufacturers, project-based and make-to-order companies like Vasantha, to automate and control processes such as sales order processing, planning, quality, time, purchasing and stock management.
With around 300 employees, many of them using WorkPLAN on a daily basis, Mr. Pavan Gunti says full implementation and training from the software’s support team was invaluable, as is the ongoing quick solution to any issues Vasantha staff cannot resolve themselves.
“This is particularly important as our customers expect high precision, superior mould tools on time, every time.”
