Space-Time Insight Merges Big Data Analytics and Virtual Reality for the Internet of Things

SAN MATEO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Feb 11, 2015 -- Space-Time Insight, the leading provider of situational intelligence solutions, gave utility professionals attending DistribuTECH 2015 in San Diego a peek into the future of big data and real-time analytics. Hundreds of utility executives donned an Oculus Rift VR headset to walk through a virtual substation, many experiencing for the first time what it is like to be inside a substation. The attendees were able to view real-time data analysis associated with malfunctioning assets and dispatch crews to respond to the asset failures.

Executives discussed the benefits of this innovative technology after their experience. The most obvious gain noted was the speed at which issues may be identified and addressed. As one executive noted, "It is much easier to see gas leaking from an asset than to click through traditional tables and charts to understand the situation." Attendees also suggested they would use the big data virtual reality technology for training of personnel to create familiarity with different assets and the data they generate, as well as for simplifying collaboration between workers and customers located in different geographies.

"Industry leaders have vision and constantly raise the bar for others to follow," said Rob Schilling, CEO of Space-Time Insight. "By combining the endless possibilities of virtual reality and the power of real-time visual analytics, Space-Time Insight is demonstrating not only what is possible, but painting a picture of how businesses can gain situational intelligence for the Internet of Things."
