NATEL EMS Releases Valuable Design for Manufacturability Best Practices Tool

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Feb. 25, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — NATEL EMS surprised the Microelectronics industry with a downloadable  Design for Manufacturability Checklist  intended to inform clients of best practices and rules pertaining to the design for manufacturing (DFM) process for printed circuit board assembly and microelectronics. This valuable tool is offered as a part of NATEL's promise of transparency and focus on the success of its clients. The download is free and is available on  NATEL's website.

The decision to make this checklist widely available was a difficult one, since it's considered to be such a valuable tool. Yet its release supports NATEL's promise of clarity, as well as its focus on the success of its clients. "We want our clients to succeed, and we realized we could help in their success by providing more transparency around the design for manufacturing process," President and CEO Sudesh Arora said. "This is all about sharing knowledge in a way that helps our clients succeed on current projects, so they come back to us for more solutions in the future."

Capitalizing on NATEL's decades of experience with enhancing the production process in order to improve reliability and reduce costs on projects, the checklist consists of a series of questions intended to guide the user towards best practices for DFM, PCBA and microelectronics products.

The DFM checklist is organized into eight sections: substrates and boards, hybrids and multichip modules, surface mount assembly, through-hole assembly, hand-solder, mechanical assembly, testing and regulatory approvals. Each section contains a series of precise questions that can be answered with yes, no or not applicable.

The checklist also allows the NATEL engineering team to share information with clients and collaborate earlier in the design process, resulting in a reduction of the time and cost necessary to create a product. At the same time, since early DFM manufacturing isn't always realistic, the checklist assists with improving mature designs, from board design and PCB assembly to design for seal and test and regulatory approvals.

Regardless of the point in a project's life cycle the checklist is filled out, it creates clarity and unity in regard to the DFM process, thereby allowing NATEL EMS and its clients to maximize efficiency in bringing a product to market while reducing overall risk.
