Linguastat Secures Patent for Natural Language Artificial Intelligence Technology

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Mar 11, 2015 -- Linguastat, a leader in natural language processing (NLP) and natural language generation (NLG) artificial intelligence (AI), today announced that it has received a patent for its natural language AI technology. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued patent Number 8,977,953 on March 10, 2015 for "Customizing Information by Combining Pair of Annotation from at Least Two Different Documents." Linguastat's technology detailed in the patent bridges a gap between NLP, machine understanding and NLG by allowing computers to automatically read, understand and write original stories about data scattered across disparate sources. The new patent expands the company's IP portfolio, which includes a second patent issued for systems and methods for identifying the product claims associated with electronic text, and several pending applications.

"During the past several weeks, there has been significant buzz about robots generating news stories and artificial intelligence providing everything from copywriting to marketing data analysis," said John Pierre, CEO of Linguastat. "Our technology extends the benefits of AI for marketing automation beyond those previously written about, and has been proven in a variety of applications ranging from the U.S. military and public health, to digital media and ecommerce. Unlike licensed solutions, we have built our technology from the ground-up, and this new patent strengthens our IP portfolio and will further accelerate our commercialization efforts going forward."

The new patent outlines a broad range of methods related to reading, indexing, synthesizing and transforming information from disparate/multiple sources of information in such a way that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Linguastat's patent details the process of extracting and transforming information from two or more documents into original human-readable text using NLG. This allows computers to learn about new facts and relationships that are only apparent by "connecting the dots" among facts found in many different sources.

Pierre added, "We are the only company using NLG to solve one of the biggest problems in e-commerce, creating optimized, original and engaging stories about products to drive transactions. However, any business that needs to engage consumers can leverage our AI to automate the process of creating personalized content about their products and services on a broad scale."
