TOKYO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 19, 2015 — Toshiba Corporation's (TOKYO: 6502) Semiconductor & Storage Products Company today announced that it has started commercial production of “T4K82”, a 13-megapixel BSI[1] CMOS image sensor that allows smartphones and tablets to record full HD video at 240 equivalent frames per second (fps), the industry’s highest[2] frame rate. Commercial shipments start today.

High speed video recording generally results in underexposed images with short exposure time, making it difficult to increase the frame rate. “T4K82” incorporates the “Bright Mode” technology that boosts imaged brightness up to four times. “Bright Mode” realizes full HD video capture at 240 fps equivalent and QVGA video capture at 900 fps equivalent.
“T4K82” is capable of capturing high-quality, high-speed video even in the low-light conditions, and offers extended imaging functions on smartphones and tablets including smooth slow motion playback.
