Immersion Launches TouchSense Engage Solution for Mobile Games

New offering provides developers with custom design tools and services to create unique gaming experiences with tactile feedback technology

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 31, 2015 — Immersion Corporation (NASDAQ: IMMR), the leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced the rollout of the TouchSense® Engage™ solution for Mobile Games. The new solution takes mobile games to the next level by providing tools plus creative design support and services for adding custom tactile effects to engage users’ sense of touch. With the TouchSense Engage solution, mobile game developers can amplify retention and increase enjoyment by leveraging advanced haptics to create games that users can feel.

Immersion’s TouchSense Engage solution enables developers to design touch interactions that work with the audio and visual design, as well as for the variety of interactive elements of the game, such as action, power-ups, crashes, slingshots, celebrations, mood, and pace. The solution builds upon the growing adoption of Immersion’s currently available mobile gaming SDK and library of 124 pre-designed tactile effects, which has successfully launched in more than 15,000 different mobile games to date.

“In the gaming community, there is a constant push to be on the cutting edge of both technology and creativity,” said Nick Thomas, head of mobile gaming at Immersion. “We’re seeing demand from top studios for tactile effects that are custom designed to enhance game play and work hand-in-hand with the audio and visual elements of the game. The TouchSense Engage solution pushes mobile game makers to think about the design of their game in a new dimension.”

As a part of the TouchSense Engage offering, Immersion’s UX team of highly specialized tactile effect designers will collaborate directly with top-tier game makers to design dynamic, multi-dimensional experiences. Immersion will also work directly with developers to help originate and test ideas in a demonstration version.

To further expand the resources available to mobile game developers, Immersion now works closely with design houses, studios and third-party production facilities to streamline the design of tactile effects and enable the quick launch of new tactile-enhanced games into the market.

Immersion has a deep background in console gaming, and extensive experience designing tactile feedback for mobile device user interfaces. By working with Immersion, mobile game developers will be able to advance their game design approach with innovative technology and create higher quality, unique experiences.

Availability

Mobile game developers can download an evaluation kit to test out tactile effects with their games from TouchSense.com/developers. Requests for a light version of the SDK, without custom designed tactile effects, or a full solution with custom designed tactile effects can also be made through the TouchSense.com website.

Immersion’s TouchSense technology is power-efficient, consuming on average, only about one to three percent of battery use depending on the use case. CPU and memory use are also very low, consuming less than what is typically needed for audio playback. Content, games and media enhanced with tactile effects using the TouchSense Engage solution work on the wide range of Android mobile devices on the market today; and are optimized for devices running TouchSense technology in the operating system.
