Nominees For 16th Annual Golden Trailer Awards Revealed As The Entertainment Industry Celebrates The Best In Motion Picture Trailers And Television Marketing

- Universal Pictures Earns Most Nominations By Studio as Fox, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., Disney Round Out The Top 5

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 10, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — The Golden Trailer Awards, the entertainment industry's best and most fun-filled celebration devoted to the year's most outstanding achievements in motion picture and television marketing, announced today the nominees in the 16th annual competition that has emerged as one of the most anticipated and recognized events acknowledging the work of film marketers and companies that create movie trailers, commercials and posters worldwide.  Evelyn Watters, Golden Trailer Awards Executive Director, along with the show's executive producer Monica Brady, announced the 2015 nominees.  The event will take place on Wednesday, May 6th at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills.

Universal Pictures led this year's count by studio with a combined total of 44 nominations (including Focus Features) for films including Furious 7, Jurassic World, Minions, Unbroken and Ted 2, among others. In second place by studio is Fox (which includes Searchlight and the Fox Network Group), with a total of 41 nominations for work on projects including Birdman, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Gone Girl, and Wild, among other titles. Lionsgate and Warner Bros. tied with 36 nominations apiece. Lionsgate garnered nods for their work on films such as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, and The Expendables 3, as well as others. Warner Bros. tally includes nominees from subsidiary New Line Cinema, and includes recognition for work on films ranging from Mad Max: Fury Road and Tammy to American Sniper and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Disney rounded out the top 5 with 20 nominations for films including Big Hero 6, Ant Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Tomorrowland, among others.

On the agency side, Ignition Creative worked on 44 of this year's nominees (12 Trailers and TV Spots and 32 Print nominees).  Other creative agencies leading this year's pack included AV Squad with 26 nominations, Trailer Park earned 25 nominations, Buddha Jones earned 17 noms, and mOcean generated 13 nods this year.

The Golden Trailer Awards are presented to nominees in 82 diverse categories that range from serious to lighthearted, including Best Summer Blockbuster Trailer Award, Trashiest Trailer, Most Romantic Trailer, Best of Show, and the most popular award of the night: the Golden Fleece Award, bestowed on the best trailer for the film where the marketing was considered better than the film itself.

Explained Watters, "The movie trailer is the most important piece of marketing in the studio's war chest. A memorable trailer can make or break a campaign, especially today, when so many people are viewing these materials digitally. The first Fifty Shades of Grey trailer was viewed online by an estimated 7 million people in the first 24 hours. A few years ago, The Avengers trailer generated 10 million views in its first day of release. The Golden Trailer Awards celebrates and rewards the best of the best by showcasing the extraordinary and talented artists, editors, executives, and visual effects and animation wizards who have mastered the art of selling a movie in roughly 2 minutes."

There are six new categories for 2015, including: Best Teaser, Best Original Score TV Spot, Best Billboard, Best Fantasy/Adventure Poster, Best Trailer for a TV Series/Mini-series, and Best Fantasy Adventure TV Spot.

19 of the top honors are presented "live" on stage at the celebratory show, which routinely sells out and draws a heavy industry crowd of studio and network marketing executives, representatives from creative agencies, media and celebrities.

This year's competition drew a record number of submissions, up nearly 17% from last year's  total.
