Cree Advances High-Quality Lighting Performance with New TrueWhite® LEDs

New LED Arrays Offer Unprecedented Combination of Color Quality, Lumen Output and Efficacy

DURHAM, N.C. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 30, 2015 — Furthering its commitment to driving better light experiences, Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) announces a breakthrough achievement in LED performance with Cree® TrueWhite® LEDs, enabling no-compromise LED lighting in previously untapped lighting applications such as high performance retail spots. Delivering greater than 90 CRI light at more than 140 lumens per watt efficacy in a small 19 mm light emitting surface (LES), Cree TrueWhite® LEDs offer unparalleled light quality, performance and reliability to lighting manufacturers.

Cree TrueWhite® LEDs are the first LED Arrays to deliver 3500 lumens of high quality light in the 19 mm LES required for retail spots. Unlike previous LED solutions, this new technology allows lighting manufacturers to develop LED spots without making trade-offs among color quality, light output, efficacy, lifetime or size.

“We’re excited that with Cree’s new TrueWhite® LEDs there is no compromise between performance and light quality,” said Mike Wang, executive vice president, lighting technologies, Edison Price Lighting. “Until now, there has not been a compelling reason to replace traditional ceramic metal halide (CMH) light sources with LEDs. Cree’s TrueWhite LED is truly game-changing and can further accelerate LED adoption.”

“With an unmatched combination of high lumen output, high efficacy and high CRI in a small LES, Cree TrueWhite® LEDs can enable lighting designers to deliver the benefits of CMH lighting without any of its disadvantages,” said Dave Emerson, vice president and general manager for Cree LEDs. “This technology breakthrough, enabled by Cree’s innovative SC5 Technology™ Platform, can both improve performance and lower system costs over existing solutions and can enable a new generation of LED lighting for applications with the highest light quality needs such as retail, hospitality and healthcare.”

Visit Cree at LIGHTFAIR® International (LFI®) in New York, May 5-7 at booth #1657 for a demonstration of the pioneering TrueWhite LEDs along with Cree’s full portfolio of market-leading LED technology. The first TrueWhite LEDs will be commercially available before the end of summer.
