GeoMattix Offers Training Video for Esri's Collector App

GPS Mapping with Esri’s Collector App

Boulder, CO, May 11, 2015 -- GeoMattix is pleased to announce the latest GIS training video course.  GPS Mapping with Esri’s Collector App is for anyone who wants to learn how to use Esri’s Collector app on an Apple or Android smart device to collect GIS-ready GPS data.

The course covers everything required to put the Collector workflow into place:

  • Software and hardware requirements
  • Setting up a geodatabase for use in Collector
  • How to attach digital photos to your field assets using your cell phone or tablet
  • Sharing your data and project with others in your organization

“We designed this course around a simple workflow that moves your GIS from office to cloud to field and back,” say Michele Mattix, owner of GeoMattix.  “One of the things that makes the Collector app such a powerful field tool is that it fits in with numerous GIS workflows,” she says.  “It works with or without ArcGIS for Server, with any license of ArcGIS for Desktop, and with a wide variety of smart phones and tablets.  Our new training course takes the guesswork out of the process by presenting a simple workflow that will work for any GIS set up and can be easily modified to fit specific needs.”

GPS users who have not yet made the switch to smart phones and tablets for their GIS fieldwork will appreciate the simplicity and low cost of the Collector workflow.  It is Esri’s ArcGIS Online that gives this workflow its flexibility.  Among other things, the course teaches you how to create a web map which can be shared with others in ArcGIS Online as well as those using the Collector app.

The Collector workflow also allows for external GPS receivers, such as Trimble’s R1, that can wirelessly connect to the smart device to provide higher and more reliable accuracy.

GPS Mapping with Esri’s Collector App course is available for immediate access online.  Authorized distributors can purchase the course on CD for resell.
