(NYSE: ARW) today announced at the Freescale Technology Forum that it is now offering an open-source, specification-compliant board that is based on the new Freescale i.MX 7 microprocessor. Arrow also collaborated with Qualcomm Atheros Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, on the board’s Bluetooth & Wi-Fi capabilities and with Linear Technologies on the board’s power supply.

Arrow collaborates with its extensive supplier and manufacturer network to design a range of standardized, open-source boards for the nonprofit Linaro 96Boards community. The goal of its 96Boards initiative is to provide an option for standardization of system-on-a-chip (SoC) boards for software developers, the maker community and embedded product manufacturers. Standardized boards, like the one Arrow announced today, enable developers to focus on innovating on a range of compatible add-on software and hardware products.
