“I remember watching The Jetsons as a kid and wondering if I would live in a house like that. And now as an adult, seeing some of the work from companies like Insteon and AiroCorp, we’re a lot closer to that home of the future than we think,” said Grant Imahara. “We’re living in an exciting time, and this challenge is a perfect complement to keep this innovation going and seeing what new ideas we can build upon to accompany other devices already available today.”

The Empowering Innovation Home Automation Challenge gives the best and the brightest inventors the chance to showcase their home automation ideas with the Mouser engineering community. What ideas would you submit to make your life easier, more convenient or comfortable in your home using smart technology? Ideas can focus on wireless, video, data, security, climate, lighting or any other home appliance or lifestyle gadget you wish. The possibilities are endless!

Simply go to the Empowering Innovation Home Automation Challenge page to enter. In 100 words or less, creatively describe how your smart home solution works or why your idea needs to be automated. Once you’ve submitted your idea, share it with friends on social media and ask them to vote for you. The two entries with the most votes will qualify to win an Insteon home automation starter kit.

The first 200 entrants of the Home Automation Challenge will receive a Letting My Genius Prevail™ T-Shirt, and all submissions must be made by midnight (CDT) August 12, 2015, to qualify for the grand prize. The challenge is part of the new Home and Factory Automation Series and Empowering Innovation Together programs, available only on Mouser.com.

The Home and Factory Automation Series is sponsored by Platinum Program Partner Analog Devices and Diamond sponsors Altera, Murata, and TE Connectivity. The series is the third installment and follow-up to the popular Robotics series, winner of a Telly award; and a Space series launched earlier this year from Mouser Electronics and Grant Imahara.
