Seagate and HP Co-Sponsor 19th Annual IEEE High Performance Computing Industry Event

CUPERTINO, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 15, 2015 — Seagate Technology plc (NASDAQ: STX), a world leader in storage solutions, announced today it is sponsoring the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) High Performance Extreme Computing Conference (HPEC ’15). MIT Lincoln Laboratory, under the leadership of Dr. Jeremy Kepner, recognized the growing importance of the HPC field and inaugurated this yearly workshop and conference to bring together industry and academia to discuss developments and needs. The conference, which continues to be organized by MIT Lincoln Labs, is celebrating its 19th anniversary this year. Seagate joins HP as co-platinum sponsors of HPEC ’15, taking place September 15–17, 2015 in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Seagate and HP have worked with MIT Lincoln Labs, MIT Computer Science & AI Laboratory, and MIT McGovern Institute for Brain Research (McGovern) as proud suppliers contributing to their important research. The MIT McGovern Institute is a team of world-class neuroscientists dedicated to understanding how the brain works and pioneering new methods to prevent and treat brain disorders. The McGovern Institute utilizes Seagate and HP technology within its computing cluster, using Seagate’s ClusterStor™ Lustre® file system to store up to 483 terabytes of data.

“Initially we became sponsors of the HPEC event because of the overwhelming growth it had been experiencing,” said Dr. Christopher N. Hill, principal research engineer, MIT. “We’re proud of our association with our co-sponsors, as well as organizations like the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT, which – through high performance computing – continue to make fantastic strides in medical research.”

“The research being conducted at MIT is a prime example of Seagate and HP providing an end-to-end solution enabling organizations to maximize the utilization of their HPC infrastructure,” said Ken Claffey, vice president and general manager, Seagate HPC systems business. “Seagate and HP are providing solutions that run many of the experiments in the technology centers at MIT Lincoln Labs and McGovern.”

Engineered for high-performance computing, Seagate’s ClusterStor solutions remove complexities associated with deploying and maintaining traditional high performance storage systems. With the integration of Seagate’s core HDD and SDD with its ultra-dense data enclosures, operating system, data protection layer, embedded servers and the Lustre file system, the result is a uniquely performance engineered, scalable storage platform. With this all-inclusive combination, the award-winning Seagate ClusterStor solution provides world-class performance with simplified ease-of-use and management, significantly reducing the time required to meet mission-critical needs. In a further step to solve customer challenges, Seagate has partnered with HP to bring together ClusterStor scale-out storage capabilities and HP award-winning compute solutions, featuring the HPC oriented Apollo line of servers, providing customers with the most scalable and highest performance HPC solutions.
