Bright Computing Announces Integration with Dell PowerEdge Servers for HPC Environments

Bright Computing's cluster management software now available on Dell's 13th generation PowerEdge servers for rapid deployment and quick time to value in HPC settings

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 11, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Bright Computing, the leading provider of hardware-agnostic cluster and cloud management software, today announced that the latest version of its Bright Cluster Manager® software, version 7.1, is now integrated with Dell's 13th generation PowerEdge server portfolio. The integration enables systems administrators to easily deploy and configure Dell infrastructure using Bright Cluster Manager.

The latest version of Bright Cluster Manager is deeply integrated with Dell's industry-leading PowerEdge servers to simplify the management and operation of clusters. Bright and Dell worked together to test and validate the optimal settings for a variety of cluster configurations to ensure that customers deploying Bright software with Dell hardware will have integrated systems that function together. This extensive testing and optimization maximizes cluster uptime and accelerates IT service delivery by automating and centralizing key functions, such as workload and infrastructure management. The Dell and Bright integration benefits High Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data analytics, OpenStack private clouds, and hybrid clusters containing more than one type of workload.

"What's especially exciting about this enhancement is that Dell's server BIOS and firmware management is integrated with Bright's cluster management," said Bright CTO, Martijn de Vries. "It simplifies the deployment, management, and maintenance of Dell clusters, making it easier for our customers to achieve the results they expect."

To improve cluster availability and performance, Bright offers the following integrations with Dell's 13th generation of PowerEdge servers:

  • Bright manages and configures Dell PowerEdge server BIOS settings on a node-by-node basis or as a group
  • Bright pushes Dell firmware updates to a group of Dell PowerEdge servers
  • Bright checks the administrator-defined cluster settings in order to prevent configuration errors
  • Bright can configure Dell PowerEdge servers in a reduced energy consumption mode

"Efficient system administration of high-performance computing systems is a challenge, with management too long locked within each server," said Jim Ganthier, vice president and general manager, Engineered Solutions, Cloud and HPC, Dell. "Dell's partnership with Bright is a great example of Dell's commitment to provide the right capabilities to a larger HPC community. The Bright integration on Dell PowerEdge servers gives the community a solid hardware foundation and an easier and faster way to deploy, configure and manage HPC environments at a cluster-level."
