Mellanox Announces ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable Adapter with Onboard Xilinx FPGA Acceleration

ConnectX®-4 Lx Programmable adapter enables maximum flexibility for users to optimize their HPC, Web 2.0, cloud and enterprise data center applications

AUSTIN, Texas — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 16, 2015SC’15 – Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced the ConnectX®-4 Lx Programmable adapter to enable public and private clouds, Web 2.0 infrastructures, telecommunications, and high-performance computing infrastructures to achieve the highest performance and maximum flexibility. The ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter provides users with the maximum flexibility to offload CPU utilization by migrating portions of their data processing logic to an on-board Xilinx FPGA, while taking advantage of Mellanox network controller’s hardware-based application accelerations, unmatched scalability and efficiency.

The ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter creates a platform solution that can be customized using the onboard Xilinx Kintex® UltraScale™ FPGA to create programmable application acceleration to enable a broad range of applications. The Kintex UltraScale device delivers the equivalent of several million ASIC gates worth of capacity. When combined with Xilinx design environments, such as the Xilinx Vivado® Design Suite and SDAccel Development Environment for OpenCL, C, and C++, customers can quickly and easily create innovative hardware optimized designs that maximize performance per watt while minimizing latency.

The ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter can be used to accelerate a wide range of network applications, including Security, Deep Packet Inspection, Compression/Decompression, High-Frequency Trading and many more. Thus, it optimizes and achieves the highest performance in modern data centers, private and public clouds, Web 2.0 infrastructure, telecommunications and high-performance computing.

“Mellanox’s interconnect solution, coupled with Xilinx’s industry leading FPGAs, is a powerful combination enabling heterogeneous computing for customers looking to deliver maximum application acceleration and performance at the lowest power possible,” said Hemant Dhulla, vice president of wired communications and data center business at Xilinx.

“The ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter introduces a true open platform for network applications developed by Mellanox, and our partners and customers,” said Gilad Shainer, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “The ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter with Xilinx FPGAs completely revitalizes a data center’s ability to boost application performance by enabling innovative, flexible and efficient programmable capabilities and data handling.”

The ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter also brings ConnectX-4 Lx industry-leading technologies: hardware support for RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE), Ethernet stateless offload engines, Overlay Networks and NVIDIA GPUDirect® technologies. All are natively provided in the ConnectX-4 Lx adapter without the need to dedicate FPGA resources for them.
