Sonnet® Announces Sonnet Suites Release 16

V16 provides users with new features and enhancements to increase speed, accuracy, and capability for projects

NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. (December 11, 2015) - Leading High Frequency Electromagnetic (EM) Software provider, Sonnet Software, Inc. introduces Sonnet Suites 16 (V16), enabling integration with the Modelithics® CLR Library for Sonnet, along with speed increases in larger projects, and new features that give users more control and automation for their designs.

The V16 release adds features enabling compatibility with the soon to be released Modelithics CLR Library for Sonnet. The CLR Library is comprised of advanced equivalent circuit models for capacitors, inductors, and resistors. The Modelithics® CLR Library for Sonnet is a collection of over 270 simulation models for vendor-specific component families, representing nearly 9,000 individual components. The models offer multiple scalability features, including substrate, part-value, and pad dimension scaling, plus seamless electromagnetic co-simulation within the Sonnet design environment. These features enable very accurate simulation and high design efficiency.

In addition to the Modelithics® integration feature, current High Performance Solver users will see the maximum thread count increase from 32 to 48 threads. This thread increase will provide up to a 50% speed boost in larger projects.

Sonnet Project Components are a  new  addition to V16, permitting a previously designed Sonnet geometry or netlist project to be added to the current geometry project, all with no restriction to the total number of ports. This allows components to include sub-projects, supporting a hierarchical EM-simulated and layout driven design. This allows for a level of design partitioning previously unseen in Sonnet.

Sonnet's exclusive Adaptive Band Synthesis (ABS) technique has gone through an extensive redesign, including enhancements and new features to streamline the process of obtaining EM results.  With the ABS preview, an adaptive sweep that has not yet reached convergence may be paused in order to preview and evaluate the data and, if needed, improve the analysis band for the simulation. V16 is even more automated; users may start an ABS sweep at 0.0 GHz, and the software will automatically generate data for a DC point by extrapolating from the ABS sweep data. For any superconductor applications, the enhanced resonance detector will highlight and resolve extremely narrowband resonances. The Robust Loss Model feature brings increased speed and accuracy via improved loss calculations for any stacked-layers.

Sonnet V16 gives the designer four new intuitive controls (union, intersect, trim, and subtract) in the project editor for editing the metal in geometry. New Boolean editing operations give users even more freedom and more power over their designs.

This release also provides users with more options for metal cross-sectioning with the thick metal extrusion feature. Users may now choose which direction from the metal layer, up or down, that the thick metal will extend.

New supporting features have been added to this release to ensure the most precise circuit design results that will benefit Sonnet users across multiple applications. Along with the previously mentioned features, V16 also features: ODB++ Translator, Resistance Per Via, Automatic Via Bars, Polygon Edge Checking Support for Technology Layers, Efficient Via Simplification for RFIC Circuits,  GDSII 64 Bit Support, 64 Bit Support for Cadence® Virtuoso®  Interface, and Keysight®  ADS®  Interface Enhancements.
