Easier and faster PLM integration with OpenPDM

Darmstadt, Dec 16, 2015 – PROSTEP AG, one of the leading consulting and software companies in the field of product lifecycle management (PLM), has better adapted its leading OpenPDM family of solutions for PLM integration and migration to the specific needs of customers. Based on its modular OpenPDM system, the company has created four solution packages covering different application scenarios that allow OpenPDM to be implemented more rapidly and customer requirements to be addressed more specifically. The cost-effective entry-level solution OpenPDM CONNECT, which can be implemented quickly, makes it possible to link two PLM systems with almost no effort needed for adaptation.

OpenPDM CONNECT currently supports connections between the systems SAP, Teamcenter, Windchill and Enovia V4/V6. Other standard couplings are currently being planned. The preconfigured process flows allow not only individual parts and documents but also complex product structures to be exchanged without any need for customizing and to be synchronized when changes are made. The solution thus also ensures seamless integration of the business processes across system boundaries.

Companies that have additional requirements and, for example, want to synchronize discipline-specific TDM (Team Data Management) systems, requirements management systems or simulation data management systems with their PLM backbone can use the new solution package OpenPDM INTEGRATE to do so. Thanks to its business logic, it can not only also be implemented quickly but can also be adapted flexibly to enterprise-specific processes and allows the integration of multiple PLM systems.

The modular and highly-flexible software architecture means that an OpenPDM CONNECT solution can, of course, be migrated to an OpenPDM INTEGRATE solution at any time should integration requirements increase.

OpenPDM MIGRATE has been especially designed for projects that involve migrating data from an old system to a new system. The solution package supports different migration strategies from temporary coexistence of the old and new systems, which involves transferring the PLM data gradually or project by project, to switching systems in one fell swoop. Here again, multiple PLM data sources can be integrated in the migration processes and, if needed, support is also provided for simultaneous CAD data migration.

PROSTEP also offers the solution package OpenPDM COLLABORATE, which supports long-term collaboration in heterogeneous PLM environments with development partners and within the framework of joint ventures. It allows PLM metadata and documents to be exchanged between the different PLM systems used by partners and gives due consideration to the adaptation of PLM structure data and metadata required. Secure, automated data communication ensures reliable standard data provision processes between the partners, and the detailed process documentation provides permanent and well-documented transparency.

"The growing use of PLM technology has led to more exacting and, above all, more individualized requirements when it comes to the integration and synchronization of PLM data and processes," says Udo Hering, head of product management at PROSTEP AG. "The restructuring of the OpenPDM solution family is based on more than 20 years of experience gained from a large number of different PLM projects. We have tailored the solution packages to the specific needs of our customers and can therefore meet their requirements better and faster. The restructuring of OpenPDM also allows us to offer an attractive range of solutions to small and medium-size companies in particular.
