Call for entries opened for New London Awards

New London Architecture’s annual New London Awards, recognising the best architecture, planning and development in the capital, is now open for entries for 2016.

4 February 2016 - Previous Overall Winners include the London Aquatics Centre by Zaha Hadid and King’s Cross Station by John McAslan + Partners, with the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton by Pringle Richards Sharratt claiming the 2015 prize.

The New London Awards, now in their sixth year, are the only London-wide awards for built and unbuilt projects across all sectors of the built environment. Shortlisted and winning projects are celebrated for their contribution to London’s urban environment and local community through design excellence, respect for context, and innovative and efficient use of resources.

Introduced last year, the Mayor’s Prize, in association with the Mayor of London, will be back in 2016 celebrating the project that most creatively contributes to the capital’s economy. Selected from submissions across all categories, will consider the projects that make the most innovative and creative contribution to the economic growth of the capital and their wider community; with particular consideration given to their impact on the growth of small businesses and their wider regenerative impact in attracting new employment and investment. The Ashden Prize will be new for this year’s awards, in association with Ashden, and will be presented in recognition of the best in efficient energy use.

Spanning 15 categories, the New London Awards winners will be announced at an exclusive ceremony at The Guildhall, on 7 July, to an audience of over 700 leading professionals and decision-makers in London.

The winning schemes, from community-led projects to large developments, are chosen by an international panel of architecture and urban design and planning experts, supported by NLA’s group of London expert assessors.

Shortlisted entries will also form the basis of an exhibition at the NLA Galleries at The Building Centre, London WC1, and will feature in a special publication. The exhibition will be on display as part of this year’s London Festival of Architecture and will offer visitors the chance to vote on their favourite projects from the shortlist for the People’s Choice Award.

Deadline for submissions: 5pmThursday 24 March 2016
