TE Connectivity Introduces Modular, High-Power Pin and Socket Interconnect Solution

FORGE Drawer Line Offers Among the Greatest Number of Configurable Power Connections at an Industry-Leading Current Capacity.

HARRISBURG, Pa.   February 17, 2016 – TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity, today announced its FORGE drawer modular power interconnect product line for designers of power systems and electrical hardware, including data communications applications.  This new tooling platform provides a wide variety of different configuration possibilities, providing engineers with more flexibility in design.

“Engineers often have difficulty finding exactly the right housing and contact type for power connect applications.  TE’s FORGE drawer modules help take the risk and complexity out of designing power interconnect modules for a wide range of products,” said Eric Powell, senior product manager, TE Data and Devices.  “With its selection of contacts and module configurations, FORGE drawer connectors make it easy and cost-effective for engineers to use the optimal power connect solution for their needs.”

With TE’s FORGE drawer line’s modular tooling platform, a single housing can have up to 10 modules with the flexibility to use one of five different contact types in each module.  This flexibility enables customers to get a better fit for their application, without having to compromise by using housings that are not a match, and without the cost and lead times associated with tooling new housings when a new configuration is needed.

Each of the five different contact types used in the FORGE drawer product line is an existing contact that has been commonly used in the market for many years.  The modular tooling of the housing enables product customization, giving customers the configurations they need for a range of applications.  Customers have flexibility to build a custom design while also having the confidence of using tested, proven contacts. By using existing contacts as well as their associated application tooling, design engineers can use FORGE drawer connectors to reduce costs and slash product lead times.

FORGE drawer connectors are modular power interconnects suitable for direct current (DC) power, alternating current (AC) power, and signal. The interconnects are offered in 2x2 through 2x5 configurations, and also in a 1x5 configuration.  Each position can accommodate a different contact. Five different contact solutions are offered, ranging from size 22 (signal/3A) up to size 0 (200A).  High-voltage offerings are possible, as are configurations that can support more than 1000A.
