Sony Announces PXW-Z150 Professional 4K and Full-HD Handy Camcorder, Available Now for Preorder From Adorama

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- Feb 23, 2016 -- Adorama, one of the world's largest photography, video, audio, imaging and electronics retailers, is now taking preorders for the just-announced Sony PXW-Z150 professional 4K and full-HD camcorder, featuring the world's first 1.0 type stacked CMOS image sensor for professional video applications.

The crew at AdoramaTV had the honor of showing off this new camera's capabilities at The Set NYC's show during New York Fashion Week, where proceeds from the show went to The Freedom Ladder, which helps end child trafficking.

A First Look at the Sony PXW-Z150
In a first look at the Sony PXW-Z150 on the Adorama Learning Center, expert Mason Resnick says, "The Sony PXW-Z150's big news is its sensor, which consists of a full-sized sensor stacked over a high-speed signal processing circuit. This layout should yield impressive broadcast-quality images from an unusually compact camera. Sony is claiming a two-fold increase in read-out speed, along with the ability to shoot 5x slow motion at up to 120fps in full HD. The camcorder can also record high-resolution 4K without binning."

Revolutionary Imaging Performance with Exmor RS™ Sensor
The Sony PXW-Z150 delivers imaging performance previously impossible for a compact camcorder with its proprietary 1.0 type stacked CMOS image sensor. Boasting a 2x increase in read-out speed as compared to a conventional 1.0 type sensor, the sensor enables stunning 5x slow motion image capture up to 120fps in Full HD and high resolution 4K recording with full pixel readout without binning.

Sony "G" Lens with Maximum 24x Zoom
The Z150 has an optical 12x zoom lens that offers high resolution and contrast across the entirety of the image, maximizing the quality of one's image. Sony's advanced Clear Image Zoom feature doubles magnification to 18x when shooting in 4K QFHD and 24x in HD, to fully exploit the imaging capabilities of the Z150's large sensor.

Flexible 4K and Full HD Recordings
Integration with established broadcast workflows is simplified with Full HD recording in XAVC Long GOP (4:2:2/10bit 50Mbps) and MPEG-2 HD (50Mbps/35Mbps), and 4K picture performance is supported with 4K QFHD (3840x2160) XAVC Long GOP at 100Mbps. AVCHD can be used to further expand workflow flexibility.

Compact and Lightweight
The ergonomically designed Sony Z150 is lightweight and easy-to-use for a comfortable shooting experience. Three manual, independent lens rings enable smooth, natural adjustment of focusing, zooming and iris control. Use the camcorder in full auto mode or completely manual for maximum creative control. Exceptional 6.3W power efficiency offers high performance within a compact handycam body without compromising battery life.

Networked for Wireless Workflows
With advanced networking capabilities, broadcasters can upload FTP files directly from the Z150 or live stream from any event using the camcorder's built-in Wi-Fi features, with no additional accessories required. And thanks to Sony's unique QoS (Quality of Service) technology enabling low-delay, high-quality streaming over mobile networks, video clarity is dramatically improved.

Users can also remotely control the PXW-Z150 with a smartphone or tablet, including the ability to adjust settings such as focus, zoom, iris, white balance, record/start/stop, and more using Sony's Content Browser Mobile software.

Sony PXW-Z150 Additional Features

  • Precise monitoring and low latency with its advanced, wide viewing-angle and high contrast 0.39 type 1440K dots OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with large eye-cap, and an easily adjustable, flip-out 3.5 type 1550K dots LCD panel
