Optomec to Present at the 28th Annual AMUG Conference

Presentation Will Highlight Progress Made Toward Speeding Industrial Adoption of Additive Manufacturing Technology

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 31, 2016 — Optomec, a global supplier of 3D Printing systems for production applications, announced today that Tom McDonald, Sr. Program Manager for Optomec, will give a presentation titled “A Hybrid Approach to Accelerate Adoption of Metal 3D Printing” at the Additive Manufacturing User Group (AMUG) Conference. The presentation will be given on Monday, April 4th, at 3 p.m. in the Metals Track. In addition, Optomec will showcase industrial products produced with its LENS technology for 3D printed metals and Aerosol Jet technology for 3D printed electronics in booth 40. The conference will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, April 3-7.

In his presentation Mr. McDonald will discuss how laser metal additive manufacturing has clear benefits, but there are obstacles slowing industrial adoption. These obstacles include: the high cost to acquire metal additive manufacturing systems, the time required for machinists to learn and operate these systems, the long part qualification and certification process, and the need for better process controls; however, reducing the cost barrier is paramount. Mr. McDonald will also discuss progress made by an Optomec led team to reduce these adoption barriers through an America Makes funded program.

The AMUG conference is open to all owners/operators of additive manufacturing equipment. The annual event features an exhibition as well as a technical conference where industry leaders present fresh ideas and cost-effective solutions for additive manufacturing and 3D printing.
