SITECO Implements Integrated Road Safety System for Italian Authorities

April 27, 2016, Bologna, Italy –SITECO Informatica srl has developed and implemented an Integrated Road Safety System for the Road Safety Coordination and Monitoring Unit (CReMSS) of Italy’s Basilicata Region.

To meet the rigid tender requirements and increase the global awareness on road safety, SITECO’s powerful Road-SIT software suite was adapted to achieve the following:

  • Data collection and monitoring, processing of the available information on the accident rates and status, identification of key priorities defined by the various provinces and municipalities;
  • Technical support and specialist training to guarantee quality standards and common operating procedures;
  • Information dissemination to the public and training in road safety schools in order to provide a ensure a greater level of overall road safety.

The tender, issued by the Environment and Land Department, together with the Public Works Infrastructure and Transportation department, required the implementation of an “Integrated Road Safety System” for the detection and georeferencing of road accidents, the creation of a road inventory through surveying portions of the provincial road network, and the promoting improved infrastructure inspection studies.

The Basilicata Road Safety Unit (CReMSS) will optimize use of thesystem by organizing information campaigns addressed to particular road users (youths, bicycle riders, etc.), focusing on certain risk behaviors (seat belt use, helmet use for motorcyclists, compliance with speed limits, use of alcohol, etc.). Further initiatives will be implemented to promote correct behavior by use of protective gear, proper conduct and respect for roadway rules. Periodic detailed reports on the accident rate status will also be generated by this new system.

“This project allowed us to improve the available tools and increase our expertise on the needs of the public administration. Our suite of software applications has further enriched the value to general public safety efforts.” says Augusto Burchi, SITECO’s CEO.
