Trayak Announces Enhancements to Design to Sustainable Packaging Optimization Software Application: COMPASS®

CINCINNATI, OH; MAY 9, 2016 — Trayak, the authority on product and packaging sustainability, announces enhancements to COMPASS, its industry-leading Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) software program.  COMPASS is a cloud-based comparative packaging assessment solution that benchmarks design alternatives against sustainability metrics. This allows designers and engineers to quantifiably measure design and material choices in pursuit of more sustainable packaging.

TRAYAK has recently released an update to the lifecycle inventory (LCI) datasets used within the program for calculating the environmental profile of packages. These data updates will allow COMPASS users to create better packaging models and get more accurate calculations based on the latest published research.

Other enhancements include:

  • The ability to model PCR content in additional materials like Polypropylene (PP), Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE).
  • Improved Carbon footprint calculations based on latest IPCC GHG factors from their latest guidelines.
  • Enhanced End-of-Life (EOL) scenarios from the latest published research for US, Canada and European Union.
  • The ability to model packaging scenarios that are manufactured in and sold in various global regions - now including China and Mexico.

TRAYAK Founder & President, Parshant Jagtap comments:

“TRAYAK is committed to providing COMPASS users with the most accurate and reliable datasets.  Our ongoing collaboration with various partners, research organizations and industry associations allows us to ensure that COMPASS users are benchmarking designs against the most recent and accurate data sets in the industry and their region.”

GreenBlue Director, Sustainable Materials, James Ewell comments:

“We are pleased to see these changes to COMPASS as they reflect the on-going needs of industry and LCA practitioners. One reason we selected Trayak to manage the COMPASS software is their commitment to ensure that the tool is providing accurate and timely data. The enhanced EoL and regional data sets are especially welcome updates.”

About COMPASS

COMPASS empowers packaging designers to make more informed material selection and design decisions early in the development process. Accessible through the Cloud, COMPASS allows packaging designers to quickly and confidently evaluate, quantify, and compare the human and environmental impact of design and material decisions throughout a product’s complete life-cycle.  The program analyzes primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems based on consumption metrics, emission metrics, and packaging attributes

The results are more informed material selections and design decisions early in the development process, which optimizes packaging sustainability and bottom-line profitability.
