TTH Selected as One of Five Sites to Roll Out Advanced CLIP 3D Printing Technology

New Tool Produces 3D Printed Parts Dramatically Faster with Production-Level Quality

STREETSBORO, Ohio — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 14, 2016 — The Technology House ( www.tth.com), an integrated prototype and manufacturing firm, is one of just five sites in the country selected to offer the innovative new Carbon CLIP 3D printing machine. TTH has just installed its third production capable additive manufacturing machine from Carbon ( www.carbon3d.com) at the Company’s Streetsboro facility, according to company president Chip Gear.

“We’ve worked closely with the engineers at Carbon during the past year to pilot its new technology with a variety of design suggestions to improve its performance in the field,” Gear said. “It represents a dramatic improvement for an engineering team and removes a variety of significant barriers product designers used to face, enabling them to design without restrictions of the past.”

The CLIP (Continuous Liquid Interface Production) technology is an important advance in 3D printing capability in speed, quality and materials:

  • It represents a significant improvement in production speeds of up to 10 times faster than traditional 3D printers.
  • Unlike other prototype methods, CLIP is able to produce production-level quality parts that are similar to what’s achieved with injection-molded components, with much smoother finishes and far greater consistency than previously achieved. CLIP is able to produce components that can be accepted by even the most demanding industry applications such as automotive, medical and consumer electronics.
  • CLIP allows design engineers to select from the entire range of polymer materials, while other technologies force more limited choices. Some materials provide high elasticity while others provide greater temperature and strength properties, so the designer is able to match material properties to the application more effectively.

Carbon describes CLIP as a photochemical process that rapidly transforms 3D models into physical objects.

“Since we unveiled CLIP early in 2015, the demand for the technology has been immediate and strong throughout a seemingly limitless variety of applications,” said Joseph DeSimone, CEO and co-founder of Carbon. “With its long history in rapid prototyping, TTH has been a tremendous partner for our company in helping to move CLIP from an exciting idea on the drawing table to something that can be a true game-changer for designers and manufacturers.”

About Carbon

Carbon is working at the intersection of hardware, software and molecular science to deliver on the promise of 3D printing, enabling creators to think beyond the limitations of convention to design the parts and products that will drive the businesses of the future. Carbon's Continuous Liquid Interface Production technology (CLIP) was introduced simultaneously at TED 2015 and to the scientific community on the cover of Science Magazine (Science, March 2015). To date Carbon has received $141 Million in funding. For more information please visit Carbon3D.com or follow Carbon on Twitter @Carbon3D
