GAINESVILLE, VA -- (Marketwired) -- Aug 24, 2016 -- The SPEC Graphics Performance Characterization Group ( SPECgpc) has released an updated version of its SPECviewperf benchmark that features a new Autodesk 3ds Max viewset, Microsoft Windows 10 support, and GUI and reporting improvements.
SPECviewperf software measures the 3D graphics performance of systems running under the OpenGL and Direct X application programming interfaces. The benchmark's workloads, called viewsets, represent graphics content and behavior extracted from professional applications, without the need to install the applications themselves.
The new 3ds Max viewset measures DirectX performance for a variety of scenarios using the application's most popular rendering modes. It reflects the wide range of use cases for 3ds Max, with 11 separate tests representing architectural visualization, computer-generated graphics for entertainment media, and modeling and animation for video games.
The latest version of the benchmark extends graphical user interface (GUI) improvements and new automation for results reporting first instituted in V12.0.2, including:
- Support for logging the specific renderer used by the system, enabling more detailed analysis by pinpointing the GPU responsible for rendering within a multi-GPU workstation.
- Enabling viewsets to run at native display resolution for internal testing rather than one resolution designated by the benchmark.
- Various updates to better document workstation components, enabling more detailed reporting and analysis.
"The new 3ds Max viewset reinforces our commitment to measuring graphics performance in a way that translates to real-world performance, whether under OpenGL or Direct3D," says Alex Shows, SPECgpc chair. "The internal improvements to SPECviewperf provide a better user experience and the ability to do more in-depth analysis of results."
The SPECviewperf 12.1 benchmark runs under the 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 10. Results from V12.1 remain comparable to those from V12.0.1 and V12.0.2.
SPECgpc members at the time of SPECviewperf 12.1 benchmark development include AMD, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Nvidia and VMware.
Available for immediate download
The SPECviewperf 12.1 benchmark is available for immediate download under a two-tiered pricing structure: free for non-commercial users and $2,500 for commercial entities. Commercial entities are defined as organizations using the benchmark for the purpose of marketing, developing, testing, consulting for and/or selling computers, computer services, graphics devices, drivers or other systems in the computer marketplace.
