YellowScan International User Conference 2017

June 08, 2017, Tokyo, Japan - Shinji Inaba, COO of Mirukuru, a well-recognized expert in remote sensing solutions and YellowScan’s distributor in Japan, explained why YellowScan has been so successful in Japan: “Japanese customers require very accurate and reliable data. In addition, the YellowScan systems are very compact, robust, easy-to-use and can be deployed very quickly in rugged vegetated terrains. Japanese customers have very high standards for technical support, and together with YellowScan we can provide timely and expert support any day and time of the week, on the whole process flow, from drone acquisition to data processing. Our customers know they can count on us for their critical projects”

Many customers attended the conference, presenting projects and sharing best practises.

Dr. Masato Katoh, researcher and professor at the  Institute of Moutain Sciences at Shinshu University, presented astonishing results from his research on forestry algorithms in Nagano area dense forest. His laboratory has developed  individual tree detection methods based on YellowScan data, which also provide individual tree attributes like diameter, tree height, volume. According to Dr. Masato Katoh, the key benefit from YellowScan LiDAR system is the  ability to provide 50 points per square meter in the dense forests of Nagano, compared with only 4 points using aerial LiDAR.

Takayuki Urushisaki from Chuo Kogyo Surveyor group and Hiroyuki Sakai from Ace-1 Aerial Services presented construction and renovation projects that could not have been done without the YellowScan UAV LiDAR technology. They both said that  the return on investment was very quick due to fast operations learning curve, the YellowScan systems being very simple to use, and a rapid expansion to new projects that they could not do before.

Dr. Tristan Allouis, CTO of YellowScan, took the opportunity to present new 2017 products, like the  LiveStation, a software enabling surveyors to monitor in real time the validity and quality of the data being collected, to ensure that the survey is going smoothly. He also presented two very relevant white papers, the first one related to  point density under canopy, and the second one presenting  the benefits of  Direct Georeferencing for simultaneous UAV LiDAR / photogrammetry systems versus traditional Aerial Triangulation in a quarry environment.

Videos of the demonstration and presentations will soon be available on the  YellowScan YouTube channel.

For those who could not attend the conference in Japan, YellowScan is soon hosting its annual International User Conference in Montpellier, France on June 29-30. The event will include demos and conferences about UAV Lidar Systems, operations best practises & data processing workshops, as well as industry case studies, and what’s new and what’s coming at YellowScan.
