Work easier with satellite images - LandViewer launches new features

MENLO PARK, Calif. – The California-based company EOS have launched cloud based tool LandViewer, that allows non-expert users to select a geographic area for analysis, an earth observation data types, and then apply it for on-the-fly imagery analytics. Since the solution was first launched June 2016, the software developers have added many new features that allow the use of simple and innovative LandViewer instrument in various industries.

It's hard to believe, but LandViewer's technology of processing and data collection gives users the opportunity to collect geospatial images in real time and generate them even without the involvement of serious professional data processing techniques or specialized software. All you need is just to find the location, process the necessary filters and indices, compare, analyze it in the system, and download the image using the browser. The service gives the opportunity to simplify the work and calculate spectral indices for different dates, receive new information from remote sensing data directly in the browser with no need to download huge amounts of data.

It allows partly free access to the huge data archives of Landsat 4, Landsat 5, Landsat 7, Landsat 8 (day and night scenes), Sentinel-2 and MODIS, including coverage of the entire surface of the Earth and daily updates.

LandViewer users have already enjoyed the opportunities of instantly synthesize useful results from a data source to generate, for example, spectral indices, shortwave infrared composites and many others using a wide range of settings selected in just a few clicks.

The team of LandViewer data scientists, GIS engineers, and software developers does not intend to stop and already provides a number of new features that optimize the work with satellite images to the maximum.

Area of Interest - simple manipulations

Working with the Area of Interest has become much more convenient. Previously, when loading your GeoJSON or KML file in LandViewer, only one geometry could be imported from it. Now it is possible to load a lot of polygons, lines or points from external files for easy searching of images.

In addition, the user can draw his AOI directly in LandViewer, convert AOI to measurements, save it to the lists and download created AOIs to his computer. The turning on the notification function and receiving the email notifications of new images with a preview and characteristics is available for AOI.

Scene Downloading features

Now the visible in LandViewer image can be downloaded in any band combination and with any contrast settings as JPEG for using in web and/or print.

There is no need anymore to download the whole image if the user is only interested in a specific part of it. It is possible to check the box next to "Crop by extent", select the required area and click "Download" (paid feature).

More opportunities for working with images are available in the paid account. For example, users can choose among several image resolutions. Downloading bands can be either individually or as a single file in GeoTIFF format. It also became possible to load pre-calculated spectral indices in GeoTIFF format.

WMS integration

In PRO plan user gets the ability to integrate LandViewer data into 3rd party tools.

Using the standard protocol for maps serving, Web Map Service (WMS), you can browse the imagery from LandViewer directly in your desktop or online software applications like Qgis, ArcGIS, etc.

And some interesting bonuses

The new viewing functionality allows to open two images and provides the convenience of comparing pictures with the slider that split the screen into two parts. In addition to comparing scenes in natural colors, the user can also choose the appropriate band combination (even created by his own) or spectral indices. It is possible to compare images not only from one satellite but from different ones.

At the request of users, LandViewer added the ability to download not only the tile metadata for Sentinel-2 images but also the product metadata.

For those who decided to use LandViewer for the first time, developers have added a quick start step-by-step interactive guide. At any time, the user can return to the step at which he stopped by clicking on the button with a question mark in the lower right corner of the screen.
