SME Launches Humans of Manufacturing to Share Real-Life Stories from Industry Professionals

Storytelling initiative highlights the people of manufacturing and showcases technology

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 13, 2017 — (PRNewswire) — SME is pleased to announce it has launched Humans of Manufacturing — a new digital channel including e-newsletters, social media and a website, where manufacturing professionals will share their personal stories, while also showcasing how manufacturing today is advanced and highly valued as an industry.

Human of Manufacturing: Ally Lucaj, single mother, cancer survivor and Chrysler employee. Her story is one of human innovation in manufacturing, teamwork and patience.

"We created Humans of Manufacturing to showcase everyday people who are really making things happen in manufacturing," said Jeff Krause, chief executive officer, SME. "Manufacturing is high-tech, constantly evolving and advancing — and, so are the individuals who make up this vital industry."

The first story of this series launched on Manufacturing Day, Friday, Oct. 6, and featured GE Engineer Joshua Mook. Mook's story highlighted his longtime love affair with aircraft and flying, later leading him down the engineering and aerospace career path. View his story here.

Today, the latest featured Human of Manufacturing is Ally Lucaj, a courageous single mother, cancer survivor and Chrysler employee who works on the Dodge RAM assembly line. Her story is one of human innovation in manufacturing, teamwork and patience.

Her life's challenges taught her not only to have patience, but to live in the moment. "I realize nothing is promised, and it is important to keep a positive attitude," Lucaj said. View her story here.

SME will publish a new story every week and is seeking personal stories of manufacturing professionals. If you are interesting in submitting a story idea, please contact Candace Roulo, managing editor of SME's Advanced Manufacturing Media, at croulo@sme.org.
