Micro Center to Give 3D Printer and 30 Raspberry Pi 3 Models to New York City Middle School

NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2017 — (PRNewswire) — Micro Center ( microcenter.com) will present a Flashforge Finder 3D printer and thirty Raspberry Pi 3 Model B single-board computers on Wednesday, October 25th to Simon Baruch Middle School (MS104) in New York.

The winning student receives his 3D printer and Raspberry Pi from Micro Center Brooklyn general manager Robert Mucaria and associates Kevin Eubanks and Daniel Wang.

For the 2017 Back-to-School season, Micro Center sponsored a national Maker Student Contest in which high school and middle school students were asked how they would use a 3D Printer and Raspberry Pi 3 Model B id they won them.  The student with the response judged best would win a 3D Printer and Raspberry Pi Model 3 for themselves, plus a 3D printer and a classroom of thirty Raspberry Pi 3 Model B single-board computers for their school.

Out of nearly 1,000 responses, the response from Elijah, a 6th grade student from Simon Baruch Middle School in New York was ruled by Micro Center judges to be the best.  He responded "I'd make an ultraviolet mineral detector, high altitude balloon Raspberry Pi gondola, plus school-brand fidget spinners to fund what I'm making."

"MS 104 has a dedicated STEM class that primarily serves our 6th through 8th grade sections.  Our STEM teacher is very excited to use these Raspberry Pi 3s and integrate them into her curriculum throughout the grades.  Although the technology is a little new to her, students are craving coding skills and she is looking forward to learning the best ways to make them work within her current classes.  Elijah will help us set up the 3D printer in STEM and take the lead in training whoever will be using it.  Due to Elijah's success, our STEM program has become that much better!" said Christopher Comparetto, 6th Grade Assistant Principal for Simon Baruch Middle School (MS104).

"Whether it's learning to code on a $5 computer, 3D printing their Minecraft fortress, or making slime from ingredients in their kitchen, Micro Center wants to foster the love of STEM and making in our local communities. We are honored to supply a FlashForge Finder 3D printer and 30 Raspberry Pi 3 boards for MS104 in New York. Kids have amazing imaginations, and we want to encourage that creative movement with our youths," said Kevin L. Jones, Micro Center VP - Merchandising.
