LGS Innovations and Government Leaders Cut Ribbon on Fort Leonard Wood IMOD VoIP Installation

HERNDON, Va. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 31, 2017 — LGS Innovations announced the successful installation of the first complete VoIP system under the IMOD program at Fort Leonard Wood.

This undertaking involved an enhancement of fiber infrastructure, relocating cable from legacy to new shelters, and the installation of new racks and cabinets to support voice and data modernization. LGS also deployed nearly 1,000 Avaya LSC VoIP instruments to support unified communications (UC) at the base.

“The network modernization efforts at Fort Leonard Wood represents major milestones in the Army’s Infrastructure Modernization (IMOD) program,” said Kevin Kelly, CEO of LGS Innovations. “Modern network infrastructures are key to providing faster speeds and improved services to enhance soldier training and quality of life on base.”

The VoIP upgrade provides Fort Leonard Wood a resilient, distributed network of gateways with analog, digital, and IP-based communication devices. This move also offers users high IT reliability and scalability, multi-protocol support, and advanced mobility features such as built-in conference calling, contact center applications, and E911 capabilities.

“As the first complete move to VoIP under the IMOD contract, this project can serve as a strong blueprint for bases across the country evaluating their network modernization projects,” said Kelly.

Fort Leonard Wood is a primary center for DoD training in earthmoving, truck driving, civil support, and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) First Responders. It also houses the U.S. Army Engineer School, its CBRN School, and the Army Military Police School, as well as the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. Between 85,000 and 90,000 military and civilian personnel are trained annually at Fort Leonard Wood.
