Ultimaker introduces 0.25 print core and Ultimaker Breakaway

AMSTERDAM, Dec. 5, 2017 — (PRNewswire) — Leading 3D printer manufacturer Ultimaker introduces new support material Ultimaker Breakaway and a 0.25 mm print core. Both products are available immediately.

Ultimaker Breakaway
Ultimaker Breakaway is a support material for multi-extrusion 3D printing. Breakaway support can be quickly removed and does not need further post-processing to give a smooth finish to your 3D print. Designed for a hassle-free 3D printing experience, Breakaway is optimized for Ultimaker ABS, PLA, Nylon, CPE, and CPE+.

Key benefits of Ultimaker Breakaway are:

  • Simply print and break it away. There is no sanding or waiting for your support material to dissolve like there is with some alternatives
  • Ensures a smooth surface finish on your model. Optimized for use with Ultimaker ABS, PLA, Nylon, CPE, and CPE+
  • Longer shelf life and less moisture sensitive compared to water-soluble support material, such as PVA
  • Ideal for use with build materials that could be sensitive to water

0.25 print core
In order to print highly detailed and thin-walled objects on the Ultimaker 3, Ultimaker has created a new 0.25 mm print core. This print core will be offered in type AA. The 0.25 mm print core is useful for a variety of applications, such as fine aesthetic detailed parts, and tolerance fit parts, such as printed bolts and nuts. Potential applications include microfluidics, dental model casting, jewelry and architectural models, where fine detail is a desirable quality.

The new print core is optimized for use with Ultimaker PLA, ABS, CPE, Nylon and PP materials. With the Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker 3 Extended, dual color can be used, as well as PVA support when combined with a 0.4 mm BB print core.

Paul Heiden, Senior Vice President Product Management: "Before we start developing something new at Ultimaker, whether this is hardware, software, material or new services, we make sure there is a true desire for it. We learn everyday by analyzing the way our products are used and the questions we receive through our online platforms. So, even though our PVA material is still a great solution for prints with intricate geometries and internal cavities that need support, we found that our users were also in need of a support material that takes less time to remove. With Ultimaker Breakaway they can seriously speed up post processing and use their newly printed objects right away. We also followed up on the desire for highly detailed prints by developing a print core with a smaller nozzle size."
