New Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Combo is Industry’s First to Enable Simultaneous Streaming for Multiple Devices

LAS VEGAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 9, 2018 — CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW – Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY), the leader in advanced embedded system solutions, today announced production availability of a combo solution that delivers robust 2x2 MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® connectivity to vehicles, enabling multiple users to connect and stream unique content to their devices simultaneously. The new Cypress CYW89359 combo solution is the industry’s first to implement Real Simultaneous Dual Band (RSDB) technology, which enables two unique data streams to run at full throughput simultaneously, by integrating two complete Wi-Fi subsystems into a single chip. The RSDB architecture of the CYW89359 combo solution allows applications such as Apple® CarPlay and a Wi-Fi Hotspot to operate concurrently without the performance degradation caused by real-time switching between radio frequency (RF) bands, which is required by today’s devices. The CYW89359 is fully automotive qualified with AECQ-100 grade-3 validation and is being designed in by numerous top-tier car OEMs and automotive suppliers as a full in-vehicle connectivity solution, supporting infotainment and telematics applications such as smartphone screen-mirroring, content streaming and Bluetooth voice connectivity in car kits. More information on Cypress’ RSDB and 802.11ac combo solutions is available at www.cypress.com/802.11ac.

“People now expect to enjoy the same connectivity, rich multimedia content and user experience in a vehicle that they get at home,” said Brian Bedrosian, vice president of marketing for the IoT Business Unit at Cypress. “Cypress’ new CYW89359 combo solution has made the vision of all the passengers in a car connecting at once and each streaming their own high-fidelity video and audio content a reality. Not only is this the highest-performance Wi-Fi device in our IoT portfolio, but the solution meets our automotive customers’ rigorous requirements for reliability and safety for in-vehicle applications.”

Cypress is demonstrating the CYW89359 combo solution, along with its full portfolio of embedded systems solutions for automotive infotainment systems, smart homes, wearables and industrial applications, here at CES 2018 in South Hall 2 of the Las Vegas Convention Center in meeting room MP25365.
