Xsens heads to Mifa and E3 with MVN Animate 2018

Inertial motion capture solution provider to showcase the ease and simplicity of full face and body performance capture

Enschede, Netherlands, JUNE 2018 Xsens, the leading innovator in professional 3D motion tracking technology, is heading to Annecy International Animation Film Festival’s Mifa – the festival’s International Animation Film Market – in Annecy, France this June 12-15, 2018. Xsens is also heading to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles this June 12-14, 2018 – the world’s premier event for computer and video games and related products.

The world’s leading animation and video game press will be given the opportunity to see Xsens MVN Animate 2018 in action. The Xsens team will reveal, in person, how the motion capture tools do not require volumes, cameras or markers to capture data, and how captured data is completely unaffected by surrounding metals and magnetic distortion. They will also be able to see how the solution works seamlessly with major 3D game development packages such as Unity, Unreal Engine and Autodesk tools.

As an added bonus at Mifa, Xsens will perform a daily performance capture demonstration in tandem with Dynamixyz, provider of high-quality markerless facial performance capture solutions. They will discover how Xsens tools can be used in unison with third-party animation tools like Dynamixyz’s Performer2 Single-View software for markerless facial capture – without the complexity – for full-performance motion capture.

Xsens has recently been used on such film productions as Marvel’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, Dunkirk, and Independence Day: Resurgence. It has also recently been used on such video game productions that include Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause 3 and Mad Max and Telltale Games’ Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.

Mifa attendees will get the opportunity to see the Xsens and Dynamixyz solutions in motion on the show floor at booth 2008, from June 12-15 at L'Impérial Palace from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

E3 attendees will get the opportunity to see the Xsens solutions in motion on the show floor at booth 2354, from June 12-14 in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Xsens MVN Animate 2018

Xsens MVN solutions are based on inertial technology – they use gyroscopes, accelerometers, and magnetometers rather than digital camera, volumes and markers to capture movement. In the past, data captured using inertial techniques such as these suffered from magnetic distortion, caused by the presence of metals in furniture, buildings, vehicles, and other objects.

MVN Animate 2018 solves this issue – it is immune to magnetic distortion. MVN Animate eliminates drawbacks to previous iterations of inertial motion capture technology, such as drift, foot slide, contact handing, and distorted height tracking and 3D position. This means game developers can capture anywhere, anytime, without concern for their environment – all while receiving production-ready data.

About E3

Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is the world’s premier event for computer and video games and related products. The show is owned by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the US association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of the companies that publish interactive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers, and the internet.
