Hexagon app wins UX Design Award

Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 selected for image quality, visible results

(Heerbrugg, Switzerland – 27 September 2018) – Hexagon’s Geosystems division, the smart digital realities provider, announced today the Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 laser scanning mobile-device app won a UX Design Award during the International Design Center Berlin ceremony 3 September 2018.

The Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 laser scanning app won a UX Design Award during the International Design Center Berlin ceremony 3 September 2018.

Along with user-experience (UX) company Ergosign, Leica Geosystems submitted the app under the concept of “intuitive image management for industrial 3D scanning.” The UX Design Awards is a competition focused on recognising excellent user experience qualities in various products and services. The event is hosted by the International Design Center Berlin and annually presented at the global consumer technology show IFA in Germany.

The jury statement for selecting Cyclone FIELD 360 reads: “Leica Geosystems' Cyclone FIELD app impressed the jury with its image quality and immediately visible results – a noteworthy feat considering the amount of CAD data that is under the hood. The visual UI offers a contemporary touch and feel as well as easy-to-use image management operability, not unlike proven solutions for creative professionals. It is an elegant, time-saving application that simplifies the necessary technology, making it attractive for a variety of application fields.”

The link between scanner and software

The Cyclone FIELD 360 app is an element of the Leica RTC360 3D reality capture solution. The app links the acquisition of 3D data via a RTC360 laser scanner in the field with office-based data storage via Cyclone REGISTER 360 post- processing software. Users may automatically gather, save and view scan and image data through a graphical user interface that simplifies the visualisation of point clouds. As a result, the system provides a positive user experience in the field of 3D reality capture even to inexperienced users.

“We are honoured to be recognised with a prestigious UX Design Award, and it speaks to the dedication our team showed in developing the app to best support our customers,” said Gerhard Walter, product manager for Cyclone FIELD360. “The Cyclone FIELD 360 app was developed to ensure users could easily and efficiently capture and work with their laser scanning data no matter their skill level.“

“Leica Cyclone Field offers the possibility to check and supplement 3D images directly in the field,” said Toni Steimle, UX Director & Head of Site Ergosign Zürich. “The focus was on direct and natural manipulation, which is self-explanatory and makes full use of the new possibilities of interaction supported by gestures. Even sophisticated interaction is thus easily accessible.
