Spatial Unveils Augmented Reality Collaboration Platform to Connect Distributed Workforce

NEW YORK — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 24, 2018 — After two years in stealth, Spatial is launching its cross-reality collaboration platform that enables holographic teleportation through augmented reality, turning any room into a 3D workspace. With Spatial, users connect remotely and express ideas seamlessly using lifelike avatars, unlocking a new level of computing that is not confined by space. Spatial runs on various AR headsets including Microsoft HoloLens. To see what the future of work looks like, see Spatial in action here.

Spatial enables an entirely new way of working together and eliminates the need for video conferencing and work travel. Features include:

  • Remote presence: Feel like local and remote participants are in the same room with lifelike avatars.
  • Infinite workspace: Extend your workspace beyond the screen and seamlessly tie together content from all digital devices into an infinite space.
  • Collective knowledge work: Quickly visualize thoughts and ideas using Spatial’s voice-driven 3D web browser.
  • Accessible anywhere: Spatial works best with augmented or virtual reality headsets, but is also accessible via web and mobile browser.

Spatial’s cross-reality platform is being piloted by Ford X, a new incubator formed by Ford to unify its product teams working on mobility initiatives.

Spatial also announced it has raised $8 million in seed funding from an esteemed list of investors and angels. Investors include iNovia Capital, Garrett Camp with Expa, Samsung Next, Joi Ito, Mark Pincus and Andy Hertzfeld.

“Spatial has built the most advanced augmented reality platform available today,” said Todd Simpson, Partner at iNovia Capital. “This is game-changing technology that will undoubtedly advance the future of work, and more broadly, the future of computing.”

Spatial was founded by serial entrepreneurs and award-winning designers Anand Agarawala and Jinha Lee following the success of previous 3D and AR user interface projects. Agarawala founded BumpTop, which was acquired by Google in 2010, and Lee introduced pioneering AR computer SpaceTop at TED in 2013. Together they built Spatial to define the next generation of computing and unlock collective human intelligence.

“We are harnessing the power of augmented reality to create a combined digital and physical world that will change the way we work together,” said co-founder and CEO Anand Agarawala. “With Spatial, collaboration becomes an immersive 3D experience where you can express ideas visually by just saying them, organize thoughts in the room around you and never let space confine your work.”

Co-founder and CPO Jinha Lee added, “With Spatial, we are moving from the era of personal computing to collective computing where people can share their space and ideas from anywhere, on any device.”
