October 26, 2018 -- The Los Feliz Library hosts three up-and-coming California architects at the Architecture & Beyond lecture series, Thursday, November 15th, at 6:45PM. “Making Their Mark: Emerging LA Architects” will look at the journey an architect takes from childhood interests to professional practice. Nationally recognized for their talent, Dan Brunn, AIA, Melissa Hanley, AIA, IIDA, and Ed Ogosta, AIA, will discuss the impact young architects have on the art of design. The panel will be moderated by architectural marketing specialist Julie D. Taylor, Hon. AIA.

Dan Brunn, AIA, founder of Dan Brunn Architecture, was hailed as one of architecture’s “Rising Stars” by Architectural Digest. “An architect’s role is to craft spaces that respect the site, provoke sensuous interaction, and heighten the user’s connection with the space,” says Brunn, who started his firm in 2005 to develop commercial and residential projects worldwide. Inspired by the Bauhaus architecture of his native Tel Aviv, he reinterprets Modernist principles in minimalist designs for living, shopping, and dining. Brunn’s portfolio includes furniture design that offers highly functional, sophisticated, and streamlined solutions.

Melissa Hanley, AIA, IIDA, was named one of the “Upstart 50” by the San Francisco Business Times, which highlights innovative disruptors each year. In 2009, she co-founded Blitz, which brings the personality and culture of companies to life in physical form. “Architecture’s value relies on a human-centered and empathetic approach to making everyone’s life better by design,” she says. With offices in both San Francisco and Los Angeles, Blitz offers a variety of design solutions, including architecture, interior design, graphics, and branding, for workplaces, restaurants, retail, and education.
Ed Ogosta, AIA, founded Edward Ogosta Architecture—winner of 2018 AIA/Los Angeles Emerging Practice Award—in 2011 with the mission to craft a quiet, intelligent architecture with clarity and experiential depth. “Architecture is a life proposal, and the architect is here to propose how we may live our life,” says Ogosta. “The building is just the frame for that ideal life.” Ogosta’s expertise includes programming, visioning, planning, and design of a wide range of building types, including cultural facilities, higher education buildings, creative office interiors, museums, high-end residences, and multifamily housing.
Julie D. Taylor, Hon. AIA, founded Taylor & Company in 1994 to provide public relations and marketing services to global professionals and organizations involved in architecture, design, and furnishings. She was the 2014-2016 Public Director of the American Institute of Architects National Board of Directors, and was granted Honorary AIA status in 2018. Taylor is the author of three books on design, and is the editor of the Society of Architectural Historians/Southern California Chapter News, and is the LA correspondent for ArchNewsNow.com. She is an organizer of the Monterey Design Conference and co-founder of Canstruction Los Angeles.
