Quantum Spatial to Showcase Advanced LiDAR and Topobathy Applications During GeoWeek

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Jan. 15, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Quantum Spatial, Inc. (QSI), the nation’s largest independent geospatial analytics firm, will showcase its cutting-edge applications for surveying and mapping, using high-resolution topographic and bathymetric LiDAR and hyperspectral imagery, during GeoWeek, January 25-31 in Denver. QSI will feature numerous projects that include remote sensing and advanced analytics for a wide range of uses, including the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 3D Elevation Program, emergency response and planning, forestry inventory and utility vegetation management.

GeoWeek brings together the MAPPS Winter Conference (January 25-28), the International LiDAR Mapping Forum (January 28-30) and ASPRS Annual Conference (January 27-30) at the Hyatt Regency in Denver.

"QSI continues to expand its capabilities to help our clients gain even more valuable insights for managing their businesses, protecting natural resources and responding in emergency situations," said QSI CEO Robert Hickey. "During GeoWeek, we will share contributions of our LiDAR surveys to the 3DEP program and many other applications, as well as how we are integrating topobathymetric LiDAR surveys to examine onshore, near shore and riverine environments."

International LiDAR Mapping Forum
At ILMF, QSI will be featured in the exhibit hall and during educational sessions, including:

  Product Preview
January 28, 10 a.m.
Russ Faux, senior vice president of Growth Initiatives, will provide an overview of QSI's services, and share how the company is using LiDAR and topobathy to support a wide array of industry applications, including 3DEP, emergency response, forestry and utility vegetation management.

High-Density LiDAR of the 2018 Volcanic Eruption
January 29, 11:10 a.m., Centennial A-C
John English, senior program manager, will discuss the company’s rapid collection and processing of high-density LiDAR data during Hawaii’s 2018 Kilauea volcanic eruption. Working with the USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC), QSI surveyed 57 square miles of the Big Island, including the Kilauea Summit Caldera, Pu’u O’o Crater and the Western Leilani Estates lava field. Within hours of collection, data were uploaded to the Geospatial Repository and Data Management System (GRiD) interface, developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), where additional data products have been developed and provided to the response team that includes FEMA, Hawaii's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Hawaii County Civil Defense. Because the eruption dramatically altered the island's topography, emergency responders and scientists can use the data to understand the changes and plan for future scenarios that may impact residents.

SPL 100 LiDAR for Forest Analysis: Cost and Benefits
January 30, 10:45 a.m., Centennial F-H
Andrew Brenner, senior program director, will share insights on use of the Leica Single Photon LiDAR (SPL100) in conjunction with four-band peak fall color imagery to create the key datasets that can be used for forest inventory and management for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He will discuss the costs and benefits of SPL100 compared to linear-mode LiDAR for use in generating forest management datasets.

Booth 805 in the Exhibit Hall
January 28, 1 p.m.-7 p.m.; January 29, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.; and January 30, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Visit the QSI booth to take a closer look at the LiDAR solutions and advanced analytics the company offers to a wide array of clients for mitigating risks, managing resources and gaining insights into the natural and built environments.

ASPRS Annual Conference
January 28, Noon, Granite AB
QSI Solutions Developer Evon Silvia will lead a meeting of the ASPRS LAS Working Group, for which he has served as Chair since 2017. The LAS Working Group maintains and updates the LAS specification, the industry standard for point cloud data exchange. During this meeting, the group will cover the latest revision and future plans for the LAS 1.4 specification.
