Collier County to Go Live with Expansive Asset Management Implementation by Woolpert

The Cityworks software solution will help extend the successful GIS-based system for the large Florida county.

NAPLES, Fla., Jan. 22, 2019 — (PRNewswire) —

NAPLES, Fla., Jan. 22, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Woolpert was hired by Collier County, Fla., to support the implementation of Cityworks Asset Management Solution ( AMS) for multiple county departments. It went live for its Park & Recreation Division in November and is scheduled to go live in the second quarter of 2019 for the Facilities Management Division.

This project builds on the county's previous work with Woolpert, whose implementation with the Collier County Public Utilities Department (CCPUD) went live in 2016.

"Collier County's vision was to deploy a standard asset and work management system across all county departments, starting with utilities," said Dave Feuer, Woolpert vice president and Information Technology Management Consulting market director. "The reason they started with utilities is because those are often your most expensive assets. If you have sewer overflows or bad water pressure, you take a beating from your constituents. Also, assets closer to the water, like in Collier County, decay faster."

The county contracted with Woolpert in 2014 for the planning, design, configuration and deployment of an enterprise-class Cityworks AMS to meet specific asset management program requirements for CCPUD. These requirements included four GIS-based tracks: asset management, inventory and work order management system; integration and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) data; customer management system; and critical infrastructure protection (CIP) generation at short- and long-term intervals.

Feuer said in the two years since that system went live, the county has proven the system's value. As a result, it is implementing Cityworks AMS for other divisions, including Facilities and Parks & Recreation. The county also planned a more hands-on approach to this implementation. While Woolpert conducted the planning, design and configuration for the project, the county will complete the testing, training and go-live.

"It's a testament to our phased implementation approach and the skillsets the county has that they're able to complete this project in-house," Feuer said. "They can use existing resources on their payroll, build domain expertise among their staff and finish at a pace that fits with their organization's cadence. We can consult, as needed."

Feuer is one of nearly two dozen Woolpert staff members internationally certified by The Institute of Asset Management (IAM). He lauded Collier County's deliberate business objectives and risk-based approach to managing its infrastructure.

"More detailed analytics were configured into their system, so they could define and understand the condition their assets are in," Feuer said. "They gave us very clear direction on the output they wanted from the system, and they're reaping the benefits. It's a win-win."
